    Can't remove air filter

I finally got my hands on a new air filter, so was able to more confidently go after the stuck one. No amount of twisting and pulling was working, part of the problem being that there's nothing really great to grab onto while you do this, and the whole air box assembly wants to flex with any...

    Can't remove air filter

Thanks for the insights. I went at more aggressively this morning, but still can't get it to budge in the slightest. I guess I better get my hands on a new one before I get too crazy, as I don't want to damage it and be stuck with no filter.

    Can't remove air filter

On a 2004 FG649 -- Is there some sort of trick to removing the air filter? The shop guide implies that after removing the cover from the bottom of the air box, the filter should just drop out easily, but mine is really stuck up in there. I've tried twisting and pulling pretty aggressively, but...

    Off-Grid A/C questions!

I can only relate my experience surviving this past Southern California summer (i.e. regular highs in the mid to upper 90s and periodic stretches over 100): Zero trouble maintaining the mid to low 70s in my rig, this with 1100 watts of solar, 5k Btu a/c, routinely running the a/c from 11am until...

    Off-Grid A/C questions!

Actually, 1000+ watt array would produce way more than 50 amps in peak sunlight. And if the a/c unit is being run during the daytime, it wouldn't even touch the battery bank with an array that large. My 5000 BTU unit (plenty for a small camper) pulls about 450 watts with the compressor running...

How hot should the rear differential get?

I got my hands on an on IR temp gun, and after a good solid 90 minutes on the freeway, I was surprised to see that it was only showing 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Interesting to see the difference between what *feels* hot and then the actual temp. I would've guessed a much higher temp would be...

How hot should the rear differential get?

On my 2004 FG649, I noticed the other day after driving on the highway for 30 minutes or so that my rear differential was pretty hot. I was able to place my hand on the diff cover and keep it there for maybe 2 or 3 seconds before I had to pull it away. Not the most precise of measures I realize...

    Propex 2211 Reset

I used to have a 2211, and the reset procedure required turning the fan on, off, and back on again within a couple of seconds. Or maybe it was off, on, and off again. I forget. Regardless, no need to access the circuit board on the 2211.

    2014 Super singles

I have Patriot M/T 37s that are rated for 4300 lbs, but I'm not sure they're available anymore. As to why I run 17" super singles, mainly because they came with the truck. No complaints yet though.

    A/C on-off knob questions

A fine idea. The new knob is already fully installed though, and pulling out the dash is enough of a pain that I'm inclined to just leave it, for now at least. I'll keep the old knob, and maybe next time I have to get in there, I'll mess with it then.

    A/C on-off knob questions

There's a happy ending to this story folks, and on Thanksgiving no less. I finally got my hands on one of the Montero a/c knobs that SkiFreak linked to above, and sure enough, it is a match. Not quite *perfect*, mind you, as the Montero knob has 3 positions while my original Fuso knob only has...

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

Actually, even with all the windows closed, making it out of your parking spot, much less any parking lot, without "the CO2" hitting you would be a real feat.

    DOT Inspection?

Precisely what I'm trying to get clarity on. That, and whether they're all legit in not having one. If that's the case, you'd think someone would've chimed in by now saying "yeah, you don't need one, and here's why." On that note, I found this handy link, which does seem to settle the matter...

    DOT Inspection?

I really hate to disrupt such a promising derailment just as it's getting up to speed, but...about those DOT inspections for Fuso builds (or really any similarly-sized commercial truck builds). Maybe the relative silence on the matter means it's a non-issue. Anyone?

    DOT Inspection?

I'll be registering mine in Nevada soon. My sense is that it's a federal thing, though certain states might add their own additional requirements. I could easily be wrong though.

    DOT Inspection?

In the US, does a Fuso camper conversion that's never used for commercial purposes still require a DOT number/inspection? It's tough to find a definitive answer on this, but based on what I've found so far, it appears that any commercial vehicle over 10,001 lbs. needs a DOT number. It's not...

    A/C on-off knob questions

After investigating a bit more, I now think the switch that SkiFreak suggested above is in fact the right one. I had initially ruled it out due to the spade connectors shown in the photo, which are not present on what I had pulled out of my dash. I now see, however, that those connectors are...

    A/C on-off knob questions

The plate isn't melted, there's a tab with a 90 degree bend that notches into a groove in the white cylinder. Here's a better angle: The grease idea would probably work to get everything back in place, but the problem is there's nothing I can see that secures the knob in the dash hole at the...
