Ah. When you said "I just bought a new one," I took it to mean you did this recently. Anyway, cool. I'll check with a dealer on Monday to see if a replacement is still available. Thanks.
Wow, that looks encouragingly similar from the outside, but I don't think it will work. On mine, the round plate with the bumps actually rotates when the knob is turned, thereby completing the circuit in the dash. That Montero knob has spade connectors instead, which I assume means it must be...
I climbed into my FG's cab recently to find the air conditioner on/off knob laying on the middle seat. Weird. After further investigation, I noticed that there are three little springs in the base of the knob, so my working theory is that whatever secures the knob in its hole in the dash must've...
Thanks Howard. I can't help but wonder if what's recommended for the Duonic would be the same for the comparatively plain-jane manual gearbox in an '04. But then, the shop guide indicates SAE 80wt GL-3 for "general" (?) atmospheric temperatures (that's if using gear oil instead of the...
The shop guide recommends the use of SAE 30 or 40 API CC engine oil in the manual transmission for "vehicles operated continuously at high speeds." I picked up a gallon of Shell Rotella SAE 30 today thinking that would do the trick, but after reading up some more on the whole API thing, my head...
Good to know, thanks. There were no rear bump stops on the truck when I bought it -- the previous owner had had much of the truck taken apart at some point to have the frame sand-blasted and repainted, and the bump stops never got reinstalled apparently.
Time to bring this thread back to life...
I recently got a set of the front and rear Timbrens for my '04 FG649. The rears got installed pretty easily, but as you can see below, they don't quite line up with the center of the axle. Is this a big deal?
I should note that the rear end is...
Everything I can find that says "extreme pressure, high temperature, lithium..." is marked as NLGI #2. It looks like the only chassis point calling for #3 is the propeller shaft center bearing -- would it be that big of a deal to just use #2 on this?
I converted 2 liters/100 km into 'Murican, and came up with a 117 mpg improvement. Impressive. Either I'm doing something boneheaded (not unlikely), or there's a missing decimal somewhere.
By any chance, does anyone happen to know the part number for a 2004 FG649 tie rod end? Googling my specific model year turns up nothing, but if I generically search for "Fuso tie rod end", I find a few that look like they *might* be right. I suspect/hope that the same tie rod ends were used...
Cool pics, Cameron. Thanks. The Timbrens are indeed on my list...very soon. My truck is also missing the rear bump stops it turns out (in addition to the helper spring stoppers), so its helpful to see what the rear setup is supposed to look like. Good stuff.
I have recently discovered that my 2004 FG649 is missing what the shop guide calls "helper spring stoppers" (part #22 in the diagram below). I found what looks like the right part on eBay...
Ask about past frame repairs and rust. Pretty sure this is the same truck I flew back east to check out over a year ago. I had had several very encouraging conversations on the phone with the owner, enough to warrant flying out to see it in person. Got all the way there only to find that a...
