Converting a beater Transalp into the ultimate expedition bike

Jeff, For those lights, will they blink on thier own or does a special switch need to be added? For instance, the original lights on my Honda NX650 broke so I am looking for replacements if not just replacing them with originals. I tried a small set of LED stick on lights but they would not...

Converting a beater Transalp into the ultimate expedition bike

Thanks for the info on the lights. Regarding the paint, just that, considering it is plastic did they powdercoat it, spray it or other? It looks great.

My Son's summer in whistler in 5 minutes!

That was great! What camera did he use? What sort of mount allowed him to get the shots facing back at himself? ----- It's cool to see how the biker's head stays centered, like a gyro, as the bike and body move in every other direction uner the head! :bike_rider:

Okay so RTT's who's got one?

I use a Maggiolina Airland on top of the DII. Pros are that it is incredibly easy to deploy and the hardshell is durable, aerodynamic and looks good with the white DII. Cons, we are using a size small and it's a bit tight with two adults and two toddlers! Also there is no rain fly over the...

What kind of headlight bulbs do you use?

I have been really impressed with the new Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs. I replace the stock bulb on the motorcycle with on and it makes a significant difference. So much so that I have had others randomly ask what I replaced the stock headlight with, it's that noticeable. I'm plannng to put...

    Car seats on a gaucho?

I would not recommend it. Consider the forward and back sway from starting and stopping. The kid will be bashed back and forth in the child seat if oriented sideways. In addition the forward facing child seats are usually reclined a bit to keep the childs mass in one place and well seated...

    Cheaper Scepter Military Style Cans

That is a pretty common general use can. The wall thickness is thinner than an scepter. Nothing wrong with them however they may not be as durable in the long run. Brian

    Washing with saltwater

We used to do this when traveing on the boat. As long as you use soap there is no issue, just be sure and rinse with fresh water. Also it helps to boil the saltwater first to purify it and get it warm for more effective washing. Brian

    Overland Training Alumni Baja Adventure

Hey Andy, Yes that owl was from the rock art site. I had walked on ahead of the group, rounded a corner and the owl came bursting out of this little hole in the rock face. Luckily it landed long enough for a shot and then too off again. Brian

Thanks again! Willman - I used iMovie. I shot most of the video usinga a helmet-mounted GoPro Hero video camera, some video and stills with a Panasonic point and shoot and borrowed a few images from Paul who used a Canon Elph point and shoot. Regards, Brian
