Solid running / driving vehicle for $1500 and its something you want? no brainer. Would not bother with an engine / transmission overhaul, if you have a solid concern that it will need this soon, pass on the opportunity because this service will be far more costly than the original purchase...

Monteros are good value for the $. Essentially the 1992 to 2000 are at the market bottom. Rugged and reasonably reliable. Nice ones to be found the $2k to $3k range. But we are all talking about nearly 20 year old vehicles or more. Nothing lasts forever.

I put a new Kenwood head unit in my Gen 3 and it was simple plug and play with the Metra harness kit. Factory amp works just fine. Sounds way better than the old Infinity head unit that it replaced. I did it mainly for the bluetooth hands-free option. I didn't know that the Gen 2.5 radio...

I did OME mediums - no winch. Already swapped my rear shocks from KYBs after 5k miles on them to Bilsteins. Love the KYBs in my Gen 1 and Gen 3, but really stiff/harsh in the Gen 3 - Bilsteins are a huge improvement. I'll be doing the front swap to Bilsteins soon as well.

3000 lbs would be a lot for my '93 SR 3.0l to tow anything long distances. I've tow-bared my '88 Raider (3,200 lbs?) a few time with it for 50 mile trips, about as far as I'd want to go. I also tow a 5'x10' enclosed haulmark trailer with it, maybe around 2500 lbs, not too much fun either, I...

Great points. Might be overkill for the sunny southwest, and under powered for the cloudy / rainy northwest. OP - you will need to do some research on your needs. Its not a simple answer.

With solar it all depends on the amount of sun exposure and the watts the panel can put out. It is possible. Rough numbers: 150 watt panel, charge controller, group 31 battery. Wires to hook it up.

I have KO2s, relatively quiet so far (about 10k miles) not silent thou, no A/T will be silent on a Gen 3. WAY quieter that Falken Wild Peak A/Ts that I had on a while back. Never had Coopers so I cannot compare to that.

Should be able to find the Mitsubishi part numbers in ASA.

I might have a spare pair (brass washer) ... If you need them give me a shout and I'll look for them.

When the wheel bearings or CVs were last serviced what the thick brass washer mis-placed (forgotten)? Sounds like it if you have 1/4" in-out shaft play.

The both the drivers side & passenger side front axle always spins with the wheel rotation with the stock setup locked or unlocked. Thing to check if the actuator is disconnecting properly would be the front drive shaft. It should spin freely when in 2wd and actuator unlocked - even in park...

martensitic stainless steel is hardenable. via heat treatment. 403, 410 etc. Might not have been the alloy that was used.

Yes /no. Manual hubs best option. But not entirely needed. If you don't use manual hubs all the axles and stuff will be spinning all the time.

Personally I hope you get your asking price. GLWTS BTW - I doubt any of the Monteros I currently own have increased in value since purchase. The '93 (3.5 years ownership) and the '05 (6 years ownership) are daily drivers.
