I was waiting for the Ford fan club to show up...
By the way..Tundra payload starts at around 1500lbs for the Crew cab, short bed...goes up from there if switch to the extended cab.
I don't understand why people try to re-engineer their vehicles to become more capable.
If you want more payload capability, just get a truck that offers that from the factory...Tundra might be a good place to start looking.
Awesome feedback!
Interesting to hear about using 87 octane...is that a common trend with GX owners? WIth the price of premium fuel, a GX might cost about as much as a Tundra to fuel....but with 87, that story obviously changes.
For space, I think that's the hard limit I'm hitting. My dog...
I'd really like to get into a 460. From everything I've seen and heard, it is decent improvement over the 4runner in most areas, perhaps excepting offroad capability.
The main issues holding me back:
1) Not a fan of the requirement to run premium fuel...at the average fuel economy and premium...
Is Ford going to offer skid plates?
Engine oil pan is generally exposed on most trucks as they come from the factory, but putting a cooler that low just seems like a bad idea waiting to happen..especially in a truck that is being marketed as "off-road" ready.
It's funny the expectations that Ford and GM fanboys have....
Toyota lends out a Tundra for 100k miles of ranching duties...no questions asked.
It uses a stock Tundra to tow the space shuttle.
The truck handles both tasks with no issues.
Apparently, that's not work and apparently you fanboys...
How many million mile Silverado 1500's and F-150's do you hear about?
The Tundra might be rated conservatively in terms of payload and towing...its chassis and engine are easily as robust, if not more so, than any of the 'higher-rated' 1/2 tons the big 3 are putting out.
If the Tacoma is...
Given that the Tundra is purpose-built for work and the Tacoma is more of a life-style truck...I highly doubt that the Tundra and Tacoma will share much more than a few bolts and exterior bits.
The gossip that is running rampant about the next Tundra is just that...gossip by people who claim to...
Appreciate the offer. I was able to see one in person and confirmed what you said...less deck height but otherwise very similar dimensions to the 4runner. It's a great vehicle, but given my cargo requirements, I don't think it will be in the works for me.
Good choice.
How does the rear trunk space compare to that of the 5th gen 4runner's?
I'm thinking of getting a used GX 460 (2014+), but I need to be able to fit to larger-sized dogs (w/ crates) in the back.
I actually agree with much of the above.
The current crop of 1/2 ton diesels are okay on fuel economy, their actual performance (especially in terms of towing) is meh...Ford and FCA derived their diesels from sedan-focused designs. GM, at least on paper, built an engine that was intended for...
This is true, but keep in mind that the HD diesel engines are not tuned for mpg, they are tuned for outright performance and towing capability...the torque and hp numbers put them in an entirely different league from what the gasoline engines are in for that segment.
The avg overlander...
Diesel emissions controls have improved drastically in just the last 10 years. Many of the places which have contemplated “bans” on diesels had next nothing in the way of emissions regulations until just very recently.
If you’re expecting Diesel engines to be replaced in the next 10 years...
Longtime Toyota owner here...most recent ownership has been a 5th gen 4Runner. I love the 4runner’s reliability and inherent off-road capability, however I’ve found the seat comfort and noise insulation wanting (granted I shouldn’t have high expectations for basic cloth seats). Thought for a...
Diesel engine is easier to drive off-road...but I suppose that is subjective. Having driven a good number of gasoline and diesel vehicles off-road, I’m comfortable making that claim.
Diesel provides better low end torque. Gasoline turbo’s offer similar, though not the same performance; they...
I don’t think it’s just the payload rating affecting ride quality. The ranger, even fx4 seems have less articulation and ride compliance compared to the others. Might have something to do with only using 1 main leaf in the rear. I don’t know that the overseas ranger, which also has good payload...
It’s not just about towing. Anytime you need to crawl over rough terrain, turn bigger tires or haul a payload, you’ll want torque...the ecoboost engines certainly provide decent torque, but their range suffers tremendously when providing it.
A 2.4l Toyota diesel went through water crossings...
