    Diesel vs Gasoline

Not hard? Well you need a shop to do that...big constraint for DIY-minded owners. But then again Ford has reputation for not caring to much about the DIY owner.

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

That's a better metric, but I still don't consider JD Power very trust worthy. Read into the "award categories" they have and how they hand them out....it doesn't make a lot of sense. There are better survey systems out there.

    Diesel vs Gasoline

That's a Ford issue, not a diesel issue. Ford's have required cab removal for diesel work for a while now...I'm surprised that hasn't pissed off the current customer base.

    Diesel vs Gasoline

You're playing very loose and fast with those numbers. Where are you going to store that extra 30 gallons of gasoline? That's a lot of space and payload you're taking up there. I think the range factor is an important one and an area where the diesel excels. For the same fuel capacity, a...

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

JD Power awards really don't mean much...alot of "award" categories are completely pointless. Who the hell cares about initial (read 90 day after purchase quality) as a metric?

Need help deciding, Why a Tacoma over a full size truck?

Toyota trucks are much better laid out as they come from the factory...no if's and's or but's about it. Everything looks nice and neat and they maintain that organized function over the long run. Some of the newer Ford vehicles tend to use flimsy looking wiring harnesses and some sort engine...

I'm not even sure if the differentials are common among all those platforms. The Prado/4runner/GX460, Hilux and Tacoma are entirely separate platforms...and the fact that they might share 1-2 engine options and a few randomc components here and there doesn't negate that. As for being...

Need help deciding, Why a Tacoma over a full size truck?

Well if you're looking for a used (70k miles) truck, Tacoma will have better reliability. But if you're a taller guy, I'd match sure to test drive one and see how the seats feel for you. The seating position isn't ideal. Tacoma was the overland truck....rest of the market got in on the fun.

Need help deciding, Why a Tacoma over a full size truck?

Agreed. Also the 3.5l v6 really isn't step forward from the previous 4.0l v6...at least in terms of power delivery. Fuel efficiency wise it has some marginal advantage. But it needs to rev high in order to provide usable power...doing so pretty much negates the mpg advantage and, quite...

I don't expect any truck, even a Toyota, to go 1million miles without maintenance and major repairs. But I will note that the average Toyota has a much better chance of getting to higher mileages than does the average Ford or GM product....market trends reflect that. US Consumers haven't...

There are at least 2 examples of 4.6l Tundra's going to 1 million miles...one of those examples got quite a bit of coverage. Very similar engine to what the Gx460 uses. Not saying its common, but certainly there is a good case to be made that Toyota 4x4's generally hold up better over the long...

These vehicles are built by the same company, in the same factory, with very similar design philosophies....they're at least in the same league, perhaps not in the same ballpark. As for domestics going 1 million miles...yeah its possible, but is it probable? 10 year old 4runners and Tacoma's...

GX is a LandCruiser Prado..as is the 4runner. As robust as a LC? Probably not, but that's nitpicking because they're still extremely reliable and robust vehicles in their own right. The 4.6l (used by the GX) has gone to 1 million miles in other applications.

The Tacoma's seats can't be adjusted for most of the model years, and NVH is a lot worse...its not the same as a 4runner. I've driven both.

    Increasing Tacoma's GVWR

We'll see...I think there will be some consolidation of platforms, but not as much as some people predict.

Depends on what you want: - Refinement, comfortable ride and interior with a good dose of 4x4 capability? Get the Lexus....the 4runner/Prado/GX platform is hands-down a better-built vehicle over the Tacoma. Don't worry about the maintenance...as others have pointed out, that 4.7l (or at least...

    Increasing Tacoma's GVWR

According to the brochures: Base crew cab Tacoma 4wd has a payload of just over 1.1k lbs (access cab 4wd just over 1.2k lbs). Base extended cab Tundra 4wd has a payload just over 1.6k lbs. The gain in payload is more than a mere 200lbs. And as someone else has noted, the Tundra handles 1k...

    GX 460 Research

A few reasons: 1) They're outdoor dogs...so they tend to track in a lot of mud and dirt...a kennel keeps that somewhat contained. Heck just my guy's head rubbing against the ceiling liner leaves some dirty spots (he's a tall German Shepherd). 2) They're working-line type GSD's...if a cop ever...

    Increasing Tacoma's GVWR

The Toyota brochures are actually fairly accurate. If you get a basic 4wd CrewMax SR5, you're at ~1.5klbs, and about the same for 1794 or platinum model...if you get everything fully optioned, yes the payload goes down a bit but that applies for every truck and brand. Extended cabs 4wd start...

    Increasing Tacoma's GVWR

I've driven around extensively in a hilux...it didn't ride rough at all...granted it had some weight in the back. I dont buy the "North America needs a softer-riding truck" argument. You can easily offer different payload options/trims with a simple suspension adjustment. I'd also point out...
