EPA Diesel Engine “Delete Tuning” Crackdown...Is It Here Now?

30 mpg is more than doable in the new 3.0l v6 from fca and the in-line 3.0l our out by GM. The only 1/2 ton gasoline engine that even comes close is the 2.7l ecoboost, which isn’t exactly an apples to apples comparison. Gearing can help mitigate lack of torque with gassers, but that’s a bandaid...

EPA Diesel Engine “Delete Tuning” Crackdown...Is It Here Now?

    A) comparing apples to apples (in terms of torque and capabilities) Diesel engines are absolutely more efficient than gasoline engines. The new crop of 3.0l diesels being put into 1/2 tons are capable of getting 30mpg and beyond on the highway. Comparable gasoline engines aren’t even close to...

Opinions Solicited......Another Head Scratching Mid Size Truck Choice Thread

None of the gasoline engines being offered in the midsized segment are anything to write home about. The v6’s being offered in the Colorado, Tacoma and Gladiator/Wrangler prioritize hp over torque and thus lead to a rev-happy driving experience...not really conducive to off-roading or carrying...

EPA Diesel Engine “Delete Tuning” Crackdown...Is It Here Now?

This sentiment is unique to USA and USA alone. Everywhere else in the world, diesels are preferred for trucks and 4x4’s over gasoline...it’s not even close. I just finished driving a diesel Hilux several thousand km’s around southern Africa; the driving experience and range was so much better...

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

Not much research needed...go to the NHTSA website and see how the different brands compare. It's not hard to do. I'm not the one dropping laughing emoji's every time someone posts something that I disagree with...to me, that indicates insecurity and emotional investment. I'm simply noting...

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

170k is nothing nowadays. This is the day and age where certain brands of gasoline trucks are known for going 400k-500k miles...with extreme examples making it as far as 1 million miles. Try owning your 3.5l for longer next time and let us know how well it holds up.

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

And yet the market still considers those "less reliable" Toyota's more valuable compared to domestics on the used market....the market doesn't lie. If Toyota's reputation for reliability were truly a facade, the average consumer wouldn't have such a high willingness to pay for those new and...

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

You're comparing exceptions to the norm...the 6.0l and 6.4l were well known problems; Ford itself knew about them, hence why they moved away from those designs. Still no fix offered from the factory. That's a bit different from some Tacoma's burning oil on a steep incline a random Camry having...

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

Actually if its "best-selling" you'd expect it would be the opposite...less issues and less complaints. Ford's marketing and generation changes certainly have some benefit. Go look at NHTSA to see how many recalls and TSB's exist for each brand/vehicle.

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

Again...Toyota owned up to the issue and replaced the frames. Remind me again...did Ford ever do anything for those 6.0 Powerstroke owners? Oh no....that's right, they left them high and dry and came out with a new 6.4l diesel, and when that one had issues they replaced it with a new 6.7l diesel.

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

That's literally the one example the Ford, FCA and GM fanboys like to point to...yes the frame rot was a big deal, no one will dispute that. The difference between Toyota and the domestics is that Toyota went out of its way to replace all the bad frames, and arguably even some that weren't bad...

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

Whenever I go into rural country...the type of areas where there is more than 70 miles between fuel stations and repair shops are almost non-existent...I see a fair # of brands. The domestic brands (perhaps excepting some of the 3/4 tons) look like they're on the verge of becoming scrap metal...

    Farewall Land Cruiser?

Yep...and how long will Ford loyalists keep using that argument? Ranger is a good enough truck...but it really doesn't offer much that isn't already offered by the existing midsized trucks. Based on its current price, I'd be surprised if it offers competition for the Colorado or Tacoma. Back...

    Farewall Land Cruiser?

I just don't see where that is coming from. Toyota's current crop of 4x4's and pickups certainly aren't trend setters or performance leaders, but they are well-built and reliable compared to the average domestic truck. We really going to sit here and pretend that major quality issues plaguing...

    F150 vs Tundra....I’ll make a decision tomorrow

I'd say they're more like Big Mac's...everyone has tried one at one point, but there isn't a whole that makes them unique or desirable as burgers. They're good enough most of that time that there is a loyal consumer following, but they're still designed, built and sold at price point where you...

    Ram 5500 vs Ford F550

I really wouldn't put much stock in anything that fellow says....if you take but 10-15 minutes and crank the numbers out on excel, you can easily show certain scenarios where diesel starts to make economic sense. The cost difference attributed to DEF, more oil to change, ect. is minimal in the...

    Ram 5500 vs Ford F550

Why people think that this new gasoline 7.3l v8 is going to offer anything that the existing gasoline v8's don't already offer is beyond me. It will likely have decent torque and suck down fuel at the rapid rate...just like all the other gasoline v8's being offered.

    Farewall Land Cruiser?

Lol...well by that some logic, the Ram 2500/3500's, F250/350's and Silverado HD, as well as Wranglers and Gladiators shouldn't sell well either....they don't drive particularly well and, while they do offer some luxurious options, the majority of vehicles sold are rather basic and spartan. And...

    Newby taco owner

Tacoma is not over-priced compared to what the Gladiator, Wrangler and Ranger are selling for. You can also find them for $4k-$6k below MSRP if you go with a slightly used one. Base Colorado's and Frontiers can be had for cheaper, but I'd argue the Tacoma's higher price is justified by...

Loved my ‘13 Tacoma, will I love a new 4Runner?

It doesn't necessarily limit top end speed, but the engine itself provides better torque delivery at the low-mid RPM range...when you're cruising at 75 mph in 5th gear, you don't have as much grunt for passing. Whereas, the 4runner might have a bit more pull at that speed if it were given a 6th...
