Plywood camper fabrication questions (thinking of idaSho)

Hey there! I believe what I said was that I would use much less steel. The camper is built upon a steel frame. If I were to build it again, I would would integrate some steel into the corners for jack attachment points, and nothing else. I would not expect wood to hold bolt (to wood) or...

Got it tossed back together today. Super happy to have this project done and out of the way. Its one Ive been meaning to do. And Im happy enough with the looks. It will certainly be a conversation starter... as if the custom camper setup isnt enough already  The fuel door I...

    Camper paint questions

Regardless of coating/paint, unless the epoxy you used specifically states it is a non-blushing epoxy, you will have to prep the surface via sanding and washing (soap and water). There is simply no way about it. Epoxies that are NOT non-blushing pushes an amine blush to the surface as it cures...

Far as I know, previous generations had much of the wiper cowl open to the tray below it. And I am aware of the airbox mod for previous generations, that involves cutting into the hvac/air box unit from under the dash, behind the glove box. But as far as I can tell, its not applicable to...

Ive seen similar for this truck, but its a big no-go for winter travel. A but of moisture and freeze, and you will have zero airflow to the air box.

Wow, off your meds? FYI, thats an 85# Plott hound with a 15# pack He can run with it on  FYI, working dogs are good to roughly 25# of their weight. So he is good for 20# easily. Dont like it? I dont really care... And here is another doggos in saddle bags photo for you, just to stir...

And lets not assume this is only a PNW issue. Until "seasonal" wildfires are a thing of the past, this effects everyone. Its been bad enough that we pack, and use, N95 dust masks backpacking. Most of us prepare for anything right? Well, fires are bad enough that we choose to prepare for bad...

Yep, and lets make something clear. This isn't a "weekend wheeler" mod. This is a full-timing mod. I have similar plans for an air exchange unit for the camper. Both of which are mods that protect us from exposure. Much like insulation in a camper protecting you from the cold, or a...

Some more photos. This particular truck has a large tray that the wiper cowl drains to, but primarily on the drivers side. As you can see, the passenger side is covered. So it was a simple matter of sealing up the tray to cowl area. Not wanting to make and permanent changes, I opted for...

If you like to travel with windows open with this kind of air, by all means, go for it  This has become a regular thing in the PNW it seems. I choose to breath clean air when I can. Such a mod allows us to keep rolling, without the unhealthy exposure in wildfire areas.

I've seen reference to the air box mod, but nothing for this vintage Superduty (2011-2016) If it exists, Id happily add more filtration ;) Any chance you have a link to info? The passenger fender will receive an access panel for filter changes. Considering cheap Jeep fuel door assemblies...

And where we are at currently. Majority of it done. Only thing it is missing is a cover that will bolt on. These are the filters I'm using. True hepa, and inexpensive. I plan on carrying multiple spares.

The basics mocked up.... And using this project to advance my lessons in all things TIG welding, so dont pay too much attention. It might not be pretty, but its (should be) functional!

    Custom Cabin Filter

With summer wildfires being such a regular thing, I'm surprised proper cabin filtration hasn't been a topic of conversation. We are pretty sensitive to pollution, between allergies and migraines, clean air has been more of a priority. We currently travel with a household air purifier that can be...

    Any cheapo welder reviews/experience?

Thanks, I aim to do work that I never have to do again. Do it once, do it right. Not to say every bit works out that way, but the majority certainly does ;) I too have found the limit of my "little" 110V Lincoln, many, many times. But even on a solid 20A circuit, tripping a fresh breaker time...

    Any cheapo welder reviews/experience?

I fear that those that knock flux core are like those that knock Vodka. Likely that the only example they have tried is bottom shelf, specifically the wire itself. Correct prep, and good wire an there is VERY little spatter Hand down the best tool investment I have made to date is my Lincoln...

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

Yep, and when it fails it doesn't simply deflect/bend. It "tears" open as the material is so thin. And I believe you are spot on with your CG behind the rear axle putting upward forces on the chassis assessment.
