When people play the ''diesel is better offroad'' card.
I wait until it rains to invite them camping. 13.5" wide tires MINIMUM if you expect a fullsize diesel to do anything but get stuck. 1000# is noticeable in soft terrain.
I think I get where Billy was going. That's a Useless rock buggy. It's as big as a Powerwagon. And does not appear to be street legal with that rear bumper, that high. And D44's and 40" tires, I think I've been there before, lol. If you're going that big, why not start with a...
The vacuum on the Fords does nothing. It just pulls the 4x4 hubs in. Most of us replace those with manual Warn Hubs.
Has nothing to do with the unit hub bearing.
That still looks alot like a dual clutch.
Multi disk clutch:
With hydralic master cylinder, regular olde manuals can still work fine.
Generally, those dry plates, have a little play. Sometimes they can get grabby if one tweaks on the shaft a bit. (or in the above pic ''basket'') Using...
If the clutches inside an auto trans hold, we can make a dry clutch that's similar. Or make a large multiplate WET clutch like bikes have. I think my Ducati has a dozen clutch plates.
There's plenty of high horsepower and torque clutches out there. Top fuel dragsters have no...
If you're open to the Ford v10, that opens up a ton of tough trucks during Ford's Dark Age of diesels. 05+ has a Dana 60 high pinion front axle. Put a locker in that and those trucks are beasts off road.
I'd rather have the 7.3l Ford. Big axles, easy to fix up transmission. Good suspension, and easy breezy suspension kit's. Be prepared to rebuild the trans. No big deal, if the trans runs fine during your test drive.
But you might be able to find a newer 6.2l Ford with your budget...

deal with a tent for a while.
They US Army awarded those ''Most reliable vehicle ever.'' And they break everything they touch.
I'm a master fn technician, and I still won't go through all of that anymore.
I think POS Jeep YJ's and TJ's sapped all of the wrenching enthusiasm from me. Why can't jeeps come with real axles?
There's no shame in new truck payments and tents. That's what I've come full circle back to...
I was fixing my olde truck too often to trust it on long trips, especially off road. Some used trucks just have too many demons.
Went new with a F250 XL, CC, SB, Elocker. Solid locker ready axles, manual hubs. 3100# cargo capacity should be fine for a 6.5' Budutec Bunduvry, or Capris...
They go back to the 80's with those POS Shelby Charger things.
All you have to do is drive gently for a couple miles before shutting down, because modern turbos don't suck so bad anymore.
Pulling off the hwy to a rest stop, or flat tire, while towing, is about the only scenario that I can...
