My new camper and truck ready for gnarly dirt roads

Nearly all slide in campers and 5'ers up here, look like that.

Crimp often at work. But for my ride, I solder everything.

    2016-2017 F150 4x4 EcoBoost - Real world experiences??

I don't see that thread either. Must have gotton locked, or was a shill thread? It was basically ''I gambled on a leaser turn in and lost. Waaa waaa waaa. " Thread. "An $80,000 truck shouldn't have problems. Waaa.'' It was pretty weak. Nothing non-fixable at all.

    Old Junk vs. New Junk?

What warranty? Unless you go full cowboy and put a .45 to the service writers face, new American trucks have no warranty. If they can't weasel out of the warranty, they can just straight up lie, and make something up. I saw portable scales at a Fiat dealer last week. I pointed and...

    Ram 2500/3500 Info

Dana 60 HP, 1550 joints, and sealed unit bearings. Should be a non issue on the Ford, now. Mine have 170,000 miles, and are fine. Is there something wrong with unit bearings on the Dodges?

    2016-2017 F150 4x4 EcoBoost - Real world experiences??

Do 150 have adaptive steering? Avoid that. Avoid the moon roof. Suspension work, or lift kits, on the Superduty require disconnecting the battery. Otherwise the adaptive steering goes nuts and flings the whole steering column out the window. Problem is that modern techs don't disco...

    2016-2017 F150 4x4 EcoBoost - Real world experiences??

Just stick to the xl or xlt's and you're good to go. Transmission is a non issue. I'd go new to avoid someone elses problem child. Or I'd consider a simpler 5.0. There's a thread here of exactly that. Mid size trucls are hardly easier to drive. Easier than a 3/4 ton maybe. Might...

    Considering a F550 with singles

How are you going to tow a 5'er with a lifted truck on super singles? I'd just stay DRW. There's plenty of F550 on lots. Is there something rare you want, that needs special ordered? I think that all of those trucks are pto ready, and it can be added anytime. Double check that though.

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

Audi's diesel got it's ******** kicked this year, by a more efficient gas v8. Did they even show up to Lemans? Nope. Because they're sissys. They couldn't handle coming in second place. That's really bad for motorsport, and absolutely disgraceful. Toyota beat them so soundly that they...

    Ram 2500/3500 Info

Dealers and service writers suck. Make sure you mention all of that in the survey. Give the survey poor results in each category. Might be better if techs made their own schedules and ordered their own parts. Do whatever you can to find a private shop when your warranty is up.

    Rubicon or Sahara

Do any Jeeps other than the Ruby and Gladiator come with D44 axles? (or center sections at least) I generally prefer the 2.73-ish low ranges. 4.0 might be a hair too low for my use. I doubt I'd ever put effort into finding one or the other though. You don't want to spend all day in...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

High idle kicks in earlier on our chassis cab Fords. Must be adjustable. DPF's have been a technicians gold mine if you service manlifts and off road construction forklifts. Operator sees a DPF fault light, puts tape over it until the exhaust stalls the engine, completely ruining the DPF...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

Most dpf's can be unbolted and checked. Not on trucks though: [I guess pressure sensors alert tech to the issue.]

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

Why do people on here pay $40,000 for a $1100 M1101 trailer with a $3000 tops RTT, and a few cheapo stoves, showers, etc.???? I idle my gas work truck all winter long during biz hours. And during extreme cold, it'll idle all night long as well. Fuel use during such is negligible. I don't...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

I've seen a ton of that in Fairbanks Morse diesel generators. Once up and running, they open a NG valve and run on NG using the diesel injectors as the source of ignition. I've seen a few Siemens systems like that as well, piggy backed onto normal generators. The diesel governors throttle...

Adventure ("Overland") Vehicles and Payload Capacity

A YJ with NO: doors carpet tailgate rear seat roof AC Is incredibly light and handy off road. I'd imagine a TJ is similar. My YJ actually floated for a bit, before finding it's final resting place in a lake sized swamp.

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

Someone from the great white NE should know better. https://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/f650-f750/features/power/ Gas engines in F550, F650, F750's are selling like hotcakes. The new 7.3 will be even better. Darn good truck plant as well. Not to mention v10 CNG trucks for Fleets Many...

    Ram 2500/3500 Info

Pretty sure that's changed. A wrecked Ford Superduty is a solid gold find in any junkyard. Those are the donor axles of choice now, for off road only jeeps, buggies, etc. etc. I know there's a Detroit, Yukon Grizz, ARB, and Elocker for the 10.5 for sure. The M275 has nothing yet. And...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

And yet Ford's bringing a big block gas engine to market. That slides right in perfectly between the current gas engine, and the diesel, powerwise. To give medium duty local trucks a better option. And to give glampers a better option, if they only glamp a few weeks every year. Or...
