I had the exact thought process about 1.5 years ago when I made the change from a RTT on top of a Jeep to a van. So I am going to throw my $0.02 into the fray.
It depends: how do you plan on using the van? If your going on long multi week trips and living out of a van for extended periods I...
And being that old without few of milesI suspect it would have a lot of "lot rot" from just sitting around. Sometimes having a rig sit around is just as bad as driving the stupid thing!
$10,500 seems on the high side to me. To put it in perspective there was a pretty nice Dodge horizon conversion down the street from me that I passed on because it came up for sale after I had already bought my van sold the other day for $3000. It was owned by an older couple garage-kept perfect...
I wish I would have saved my research, once I snagged an AWD I tossed anything related to lifting a 2wd...............sorry guys!
If memory serves me right spindles are the same in that they use the same unit bearing, same ball joints and tie rods as the 2wd truck. I think the difference is...
I had quite a few squeaks when I first did the floor in my van. The foam seemed to be the biggest source of noise. I ended up taking some 3/8 ply drilling and riveting and gluing strait to the floor. No more squeaks after that.
How thick is the ply on your floor?
Bending beams use to be the only way to set alignment! Pics below of how they use to do it. Now we have camber bolts and adjustable ball joints. No need to bend or weld to set alignment.
Bending, cutting and welding on beams is super common on f-150's/ rangers/ broncos/ econolines for desert...
I see high top Econolines, Express and even Astro's on each of my trips to local self serve junkyards, and they sell for $100±. I am probably spoiled living in the land of the mini van (Utah), I hear high tops are hard to find elsewhere.
My only concern would be the wood of the top to the steel...
Man Hole in the Rock Road is pure hell on suspensions! Last time out there I destroyed a shock, shock mount, mushed a bumpstop and a popped a tire...........I hate that damn road.
It sounds like you got the caster a lot better with the cognito UCA's! My van has no return to center now (but then...
I have seen two 2500 AWD Express and they were exactly the same as a 1500 AWD. Six lugs, 10 bolt rear axle, same GVW, same drivetrain.
I am sure you have seen this thread but its been my go to for AWD express info:

Doesn't look bad on the back, but looks pretty bad on the sides! How are the door hinges?
What I have seen happen is the hinges start to seize and then the hinges start to break the welds holding the door to the hinge. The culprit is usually the lower hinge. The pin is driven in from the...
Mat Mobile: I am surprised that with a full camper build-out yours is that light! I was a bit surprised when mine came back @ 6300 lbs. (75% built interior, full fuel tank, me sitting in the drivers seat and a bunch of work tools piled in there) I couldn't believe it so I went to a second CAT...
I cant believe there is a 4000± lb difference between the 90 day van and my AWD express:Wow1:...............now I see why you were surprised when we weighed my van for springs!
It does seem to be a white paint thing! My rig had perfect white paint when I first bought it. I found eventually that it had a wrap in its a previous life. The paint has rapidly deteriorated after a year without the protection of the wrap.
How did the 90 day SEMA van do!? It looks like you had a bit of fun with it out at Plaster City. I am antsy to get my springs for my AWD from you guys and hit the dirt
I am of the opinion that steering stabilizers are frequently added in an attempt to band-aid alignment problems and worn out parts. However when used on a well designed suspension they play the important function of dampening the effects of bigger tires. I have been playing around with designs...
