Yeah, my trailer weighs twice that and the tub is made from fiberglass!! Great job, super clean build, my fav of the small trailers I've seen hands down!
Lots of people start with one of the Harbor Freight models of trailer, pretty cheap and easy to customize but not really all that suited for offroad use. The most important thing is to decide what you plan to do with the trailer and then choose based on that. For offroad most people custom...
Yeah, I used the heavy wall version, probably didn't need to but was worried the lighter stuff would bend over the distance I'm spanning. It ended up costing more than the panel did for me but it's the way I envisioned it and honestly I don't know how else I could have made it happen. Now...
Slide came out great, glad the 80/20 people helped you out with the parts list. Was I right about how fun that stuff is to work with? I ended up using it for my awning mounts as well, it's set up to slide up and down to adjust the height as needed, kinda a vertical version of what I came up...
Yellowstone next month? That will be the maiden voyage for my build, we'll be there the last week of June so if you see a yellow FJ cruiser towing a yellow matching trailer with RTT flag me down :)
Group 24 marine battery. Small(er), tough and pretty cheap. I have 2 in my trailer and no 7-pin either. I charge them up before a trip and during the trip with solar when I can. You can find a battery box with the hookups, breaker, 12 volt outlets, charge meter, etc. online for fairly cheap...
Being able to carry just one spare if you plan to take this thing on highway trips is kinda a big plus, in my eyes well worth the effort and expense of doing an axle or hub swap. Just my $.02 worth though.
You can also find adapter plates to go from 6 on 5.5 to what you require. In my opinion...
Here is my electrical box before I ran the 2ga for the batteries, breaker and shut offs.
Charge inlet for the house charger
100w retractable solar panel
I used the long ones on my trailer and had to put a couple of 1" spacer blocks under the mounts for them to get the height I needed. I'm running 33" tires and will still end up putting a piece of 2x6 under them for it to all work correctly.
Match your wheels/tires and you only need to carry a single spare tire for both the tow rig and the trailer. That was the only reason I went that route, it was more expensive but worth it. Shop around and you can probably find matching wheels for your tow rig used at a good price.
Got the tent and awning set up but ran into a few issues, I had to lower the end of the awning a lot more than I wanted to in order to get the tent's rain fly supports installed, 80/20 parts are already on the way to modify the mounting so this isn't an issue.
Other than that it went well...
I got it all from 80/20's ebay store, their username is 8020inc and they should have everything there you need. I used the 1.5 inch heavy wall 15 series extrusion with a linear bearing on the top and bottom rails (total of 4 bearings with brakes on the rear ones only). If you drop them a line...
All the 80/20 parts came from 80/20's eBay store (which I believe is really them and not a reseller) and the design is pretty straightforward, tried to keep it simple. Sounds like they were able to help you with everything you need, good deal. The stuff is fun to work with, cuts nice and clean...
I used 80/20 to build a slide out for the panel, the tent isn't shown but it will be above the panel so the slide out will be necessary. 80/20 isn't cheap but it's fun and super easy to work with, like an erector set :)
I never really made a wiring diagram to build it but figured it wouldn't hurt to have one so I put this together today. The wiring is one part of the trailer that I'm most comfortable with so I just did it as I went. I'm currently not set up for shore power and not sure that I'll change that...
Maiden voyage was yesterday to get it weighed and it towed amazing, inspection with state patrol for VIN is tomorrow. Then the tent goes on and I'll get some shots of it all set up, sooo close now!
This is another way to secure both the fridge and any other cargo, E-Track. It's cheap, pretty easy to find and there are many types of attachments available that lock into the track. I picked up the ARB tie down kit and a few e-track fittings with D rings on them. I cut the D rings off and...
Thanks! Means a lot to get compliments from people on this forum, you guys all do amazing work! Can't wait to see if the house thing is gonna happen, I have a great garage now but a big shop is a dream of mine! We'll get to the Summit one of these years, so much planned for this summer I'm...
