Just a quick update, progress progress progress. At this point I'm doing the final wiring and then it's off to get inspected by the state patrol so I can get tags for it. Summer is coming and I need to get this wrapped up! Plus there is a chance we may be selling our house and building...
I have one of their kits mounted under the back of my FJ with a line ran to the front and rear bumpers, been working great for a couple years now. Mostly use it for airing back up and filling the occasional river floating tube :)
Looks great, love the 4-link but wouldn't it just be easier to get beer in cans instead of bottles, cans are the future of beer :) Glad to see another FJ'er here, sometimes I feel very alone :)
Looks great! When I was trying to figure out if I'd go DIY or purchase a custom built trailer I sent a couple emails to VMI to get a quote and they never replied. I'm only a hour or so away so it would have been a great fit, DIY for me it was :)
I've had one for a couple years and it's flawless. Now I'm thinking about that wireless option from the video.... I can feel the money falling out of my pocket now :)
We use ours everytime we set it up for a few reasons. First it's nice to have a "changing room" where you don't have to be crouched down in the tent (i'm 6' 3") to change out clothes, especially if they're muddy, etc. It's also nice to have a place to put gear other than in the vehicle. We...
It could just be the angle of the photos but the top of your axle seems to be very close to the underside of the frame, is it just me? I would expect you should have room for up to 2.5 inches of travel with a 3500lb axle.
I have the bigger one and it seems to be that the smaller one would be too small to hold on to well, especially if you have bigger hands or are wearing gloves. The triangle is pretty small on the little one. Never leave home without mine, great, simple tool.
I think I misread your post, I just received a 5lb tank and bracket from Adventure Trailers, no way that one's gonna fit your tank. If you pull the spring out of the clamp you only get about 1/2" of additional tank radius capacity.
Looks cool! I had a Sport Trac for 6 years or so, loved it. Desert Sport Trac? It's unibody isn't it? That should be interesting. That tailgate might be a tall order, with that crazy hinge and all. What happened to the one that was with the bed?
I have an Adventure Trailers tank bracket on the way that should be here Saturday, if you don't get your numbers by then I'd be happy to measure and post the max diameter for you.
Don't think I'll be making it to the summit this year, maybe next year. We have a lot planned for the summer and I can't imagine squeezing in another trip :) I've been slowly converting the girlfriend to a mountain biker, I think in 1 more year she'll be ready for Moab so we can make it a 2...
Trust me, I'm the king of clumsy and I'm 6' 3" so I hit my head on EVERYTHING :) The tent will deploy to the passenger side, the awning to the driver's side and the panel forward. I think it will still work when hitched to the FJ but it will be close. My thoughts were if it slid out over the...
LED lights
I went with two pair of these from eBay and they seem super bright from my tests, gonna have them at waist level pointing out so we don't get blinded like we do from the Rigid Industries floods on my FJ. I will have them hooked up to this wireless switch so we can turn them on from...
100W solar panel
I'm not planning to keep both this thread and the one at Tventuring.com completely in sync but my solar panel installation seems unique from my searching so I thought people here might appreciate it or even better improve on it :)
Hopefully these are pretty straightforward, it...
If you're ok waiting a couple weeks for shipping there are many ebay sellers in Asia that have incredible prices on all sorts of 12v LEDs. I picked up 4 good sized flood lights for under $30 each delivered. You can find lots of good solutions online for little money.
I've seen lots of people use Thule square cross bars on the 10" Thule feet set up for rain gutters (using Thule's "fake" gutters bolted to the side of the trailer). I've also seen Unistrut and 80/20 racks as well. I have a rack built out of 1.5" square tubing bolted to mounts on the frame, I'm...
Thought about it but the correctly sized tonneau cover that Scott carries is black, plus living in the northwest the top of my FJ is actually green in the middle from moss, algae or whatever it is that grows on everything out here. Nice thing is it's high enough that I don't see it, a white...
Hi there, been lurking for a bit and figured it was time to post about my trailer project. We have done a few back country adventures with the just the FJ and the RTT on top but decided that a trailer with the RTT on top and other "comforts" would really be a better fit for us. After some...
