Mine don't either ----- I think they switched fabrics at one time. My REI Saharas make the swishy sound and I only wear them camping now.

    Ozark Trail/Walmart camping equipment

Wally recruits talent from different sources to make their Ozark Trails gear. Some better, some not so better. In the case of the coolers they use California Innovations ----- a company that really knows how to make a cooler. I think you have to assess their gear piece by piece.

    Cold weather Overlanding tips

My buddy's son just got his masters from Montana State and he's heading out there this spring camp for a few months. I'd like to head up again.... I'd go to Glacier though. Bozeman's gotten too big.

You ain't kiddin. I had to fire up the air conditioner yesterday. Earliest I've ever done that. Shorts, sunburn. Didn't lose my tan this year at all.

    Cold weather Overlanding tips

Cold weather; seems like a memory. Global freakin warming is messing it all up for us in Georgia. We moved here from Florida to have seasons. It was 86 degrees yesterday. Here are our last two big camping parties. January and February. In the mountains. Where it used to be snowy in the...

    Mobile or handheld

Yeah, here too. We have a 2M net that goes up when weather pushes through. It's run by an employee at the NWS in Peachtree city that's a ham. Our local ARES has a few repeaters and we net on them. I took part in a county exercise a few days ago where we simulated a crash of the local EMS...

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

Well, they've demonstrated that they read the interweb threads and seem responsive to user input. Keep suggesting. Port or split lid? I see the benefit of the port but it would also make the overall unit less robust if it was easy to open. An 80/20 split lid would be slick but still be a...

    Adventure Travel Boot Redux

Yeah, I got the email from Steve Parna. They look better but the sole is still a little too flexible to hike on stony trails. My first pair of Boulder Boots are just about done. They got switched to camping shoes after needing ShoeGoo to re-attach the soles. Now they won't stay together. I'm...

    On Road Amber Lights

Yeah; I use my fogs in heavy rain to find the dang lines on the road. I saw a numnutz the other morning driving his fullsize pickup with his headlights off and his Rigid or Rigid-like cubes on instead. No focus, no discernible pattern of light --- just two big glarebombs. You have to wonder...

    Non-touristy quick dry clothing

Duluth is funny on sizing. I think their plan is to make fat people feel good about themselves... That said, most of their stuff is generous. But the confounding thing is that it's not consistent. I'm 6'5" and have been working out for 40 years ---- most brands of shirts for me are 2XL-Tall...

    Non-touristy quick dry clothing

I wear these at least 75% of the time to work --- just look like lightweight chinos. Don't look like fishing pants like in the illustration. http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/mens/workwear/dry-on-the-fly/71712.aspx?processor=content They weigh almost nothing and dry very very fast. I've never...

    On Road Amber Lights

Amber is a signal color and isn't appropriate for illumination. There's no benefit at all ----- the amber filter would reduce the amount of light projected. There is evidence that selective yellow improves vision for some people in foul weather though...
