Homemade Snorkel Build for an XJ

Here you go Bigcat.... This is the stock XJ air box. I took a square of like plastic which I cut out of a Stanley plastic shelf tray and pop riveted ot in the factory opening. Then I sealed it twice with Permatex High Temp Gasket Sealant. Twice in the outside and twice on the inside. Next I made...

    Tire Clearance

Well Stump I spent yesterday experimenting with various wheels tires and offsets etc. Using the stock wheels is out of the question now. Not only is the tight fit a concern as well as a spring sliding and cutting a tire (I also removed those retainer clips for more flex) but there is no way I...

Matthewp's (soon to be) trailer-build. *Advice needed

Matt when you get home and start the build, I've got two cutting and welding resources here. Just something to think about.

    Fire Extinguishers

Who has one? What type? What size? Mounted where? Have you used one on a vehicle fire? A recent thread on the NAXJA forum prompted me to finally get my extinguishers in place. I'd been carrying one small one but the thread got me to upgrade. A rig lost a rear u joint and the drive shaft...

    Tire Clearance

I ran that exact tire wheel combo for a long time, but never thought to check the clearance. I think a 1/4 inch spacer and I'm good to go.

    Tire Clearance

Since I hate malls and my XJ never sees one...... I'm still wondering when or how the tire would ever make contact with the leaf springs? When or how would it ever twist enough to do that with normal wheeling? I can't see it twisting sideways to make contact? Am I missing something here?

    Homebrew Jeep Modifications(DIY)

A few screws and some nylon cable clamps, add some shock cord and a once useless void becomes pretty functional. Here it is holding a 2nd first aid kit, just in case.

    Tire Clearance

Lots of interesting points. I put my TJ's stock alloy wheels with 31's on the XJ and they fit fine but would grab the LCA at full turn. A simple adjustment I know, yet my 33's on the alloys cleared. I put my one 33 on the stock XJ steel up front and it clears in all directions. on the rear the...

    Tire Clearance

This is a concern that hopefully someone here can set aside for me. My 1997 XJ has 33 12.50 15's on her. The 8 by 15 alloy wheels, the second set, are pretty chewed up from kissing rocks. I want to go back to stock 7 by 15 steel XJ wheels for several reasons. My spare is currently mounted on...

Homemade Snorkel Build for an XJ

I wasn't content with the grate I installed on my snorkel to protect it from objects entering it. So here is the change. I removed all the ribs but the X to keep large things out, like birds! Behind it I installed a nylon mesh screen with approximately quarter in openings in the mesh. The...

    Lil Sport Trailer Build

I'd like to know where your axle came from for my future trailer build?

    help get me started!

I would get a winch next and not go larger than 33" tires unless you are up for the cost of regearing, possibly upgrading axles etc. 35's are great as long as you're rig is geared and set up for them. A winch is a big plus for self recovery as well as assisting. The list is long as to what you...

    F150 Snorkel for 4.6 Liter V8

I did a quick search and came up with the 250 and 350 only. You may need to find a close match and adapt it. You could build your own, I did. There is a lot of do it yourself info online. Here's my build. http://s892.photobucket.com/albums/ac124/Dirty_Jeeper/The%20Jeeps/XJ%20Snorkel%20DIY/

We use a Timberline Backcountry for sleeping only. Actually looking at purchasing a larger ground tent for more space. This thread is perfect timing. Keep those tents coming.

Safety chain attachment on the Jeep

My solution came from eBay for $150 new in the box, Smittybilt bumper with tire carrier. Lucky for me the seller was 7 miles away so no shipping required. Class III rated hitch with safety chain points.

Thanks for the welcome. I heard about the Big Bear trip on NAXJA or SoCalXJ, not sure which. Don't think we can make that one though. Hope to start showing up places by September though!
