Mitsubishi truck coming back to the US?

Remember though, USA is the wild card. The taxes on import trucks #1 and Mitsubishi famously stating that Americans are Pu$$1es and don't use 4x4's #2. That's pretty true.

Mitsubishi truck coming back to the US?

I sure hope it's not Navara based, i could totally see Mitssan selling the Frontier as the USDM trucks for both makes and selling the Triton for both makes for the rest of the world. Here's hoping for the best though.

    The old 1999 build thread

Sounds like mine, i paid a shop to do the exhaust when i got the truck back in 2005 i think. Really bad job they did, it breaks all the time.

    Creaking From Front Suspension

The torsion bars have little silencers in the saddles they ride in, if they're missing it'll creak. Your suspension likely needs a full rebuild, the old rubber will creak and groan too just go through it all.

Are they coming for us...(Kia, etc.)?

The Koreans have traded places with the Japanese as far as quality goes, they used to license copy Japanese engines and put them in some of the poorest quality cars on the road. These days they make some of the highest quality machines on the road, meanwhile Toyota and Mitsubishi slip behind...

    The old 1999 build thread

Time for new exhaust, the joint at the muffler broke while on the trail this weekend. I was able to trail fix it with the can from my morning coffee and some wire rope Ty found on the ground to keep the exhaust from dragging. Luckily Chin Chin Cafe cans are stainless and super tough.

    4d56 injection pump shut off

It's on the injection pump on the back side, 1 wire.

I wouldn't go diesel for MPGs, the gain in miles per gallon is way offset by the cost of the diesel swap. Meaning you could buy thousands of dollars worth of gasoline before you start feeling that sweet diesel MPG. Swap a diesel because they're a fun novelty in a Montero, our trucks don't get...

If power is the goal why not a VVTi V8? They just have 300hp in nearly the same RPM sweep as the 3.5.

Depends on which 1kz, some have unit injectors and need wiring like EFI. That can be side stepped with a 4M40 injection pump swap or older 1kz. The 4M40 is the plug-n-play engine swap for the 24 valve Montero minus the tacho. The 1kz takes real work like any other engine.

The AW2 hydraulic controlled transmissions are similar but different enough to not take the bell housing or front pump from the AW3 or AW4 models

Gen 2 Monteros have stand alone controllers, there are variations too on how they're controlled. 93-95 have 1 speed sensor and 96-00 have 2 like the 2WD transmissions in the Lexus.

Which 2.0 VW are you looking at? A lot of those are gutless and might be terrible in a Montero, the later Passat engines are making about what the old 4M40 puts out though. Worth looking into.

Sorta, KM148 but i always call it an AW2 when it's a lock up. Mostly because locally it's how we all know what each other are talking about. PLH has it right i think, just remember V4AW3 will give you the bigger diesels and AW4 compatibility and the others run behind the smaller diesels and...

I've run a bunch of T-cases in Monteros over the years, a couple of Mark's gears and NP cases. The Mitsu T-cases are way more refined and stronger, the NP cases are sorta sh!tty but 4:1 is pretty awesome so i just deal with it and go easy on it.

That's an NP241OR behind my AW3 in my Montero. AW3 is electronic, the Toyota engines will take over controlling the trans if you were to swap a Yota engine. The 12 and 24 valve can both be a 3.0 but all 3.5's are 24 valve in Monteros, the 12 valve has a distributor.

12 valve will have the hydraulic trans, 24 valve will have the AW3.
