So, not to be a jerk but do you actually have the skill to pull off one of these swaps? I have to ask because this topic comes up a lot, even though the diesel swap is the easiest engine swap possible in a Montero very few actually attempt it (Mostly because it's not cheap).

93-00 Yes, 87-92 have the smaller Aisin which is hydraulically controlled. It will take the smaller diesels though (4D55 and 4D56).

The funny thing here as well is that the Montero has the most aftermarket support in your selection for once. The engines to look at are the Mitsubishi 4M40 and Toyota 1KZT diesels, obviously the 4M40 belongs in the Montero so it's an easier swap but the Yota is an option. Both are solid...

    Auto Trans ID

The US models have AW3 Aisin, the V5A51 came in the GDi and MIVEC 3.5 late Gen 2's. Meaning you don't need a "kit" to swap a diesel, Just get the Aisin parts to match the diesel you want and it will bolt on with OEM parts. Remember though the gasoline AW3 uses a different valve body and other...

Factory Gen 2.5 Torsion Bars for Lift?

Clocking the spring one tooth tighter, do not do this. It will ride really bad and the torsion keys will hang low, there's nothing to gain except height and the truck will actually perform worse offroad. If you need more spring rate just get new springs, a couple cheapskates will now chime in...

Factory Gen 2.5 Torsion Bars for Lift?

Easy, and easy to get an inch out of the stock bars. You're increasing the preload and compressing some of the progressive rate so the ride will become harsher. Uprated OME or ADD bars will ride nicer with lift.

    Gen 2.5 steering wheel options

Late Montero Sport low model steering wheel is a nice one, no leather wrap so they feel really good. They don't look any different

    1998 (Gen2) Montero Front Bumper

Go to a fab shop with a picture of what you want and your expected usage. Modifying and fitting some random bumper will cost more than it's worth unless you get a great deal and DIY. Where are you located? CJ3B's are cool, you have one? Willy's or Mitsubishi?

    1998 Montero suspension parts

The chromo stuff is probably the Okayest of the aftermarket options, Turbo got 5k miles out of them on his Gen 2 (35's mind you) with just a few trails. So they might hang around a bit on little tires, if you plan on meaty tires or lots of wheeling the Mitsu joints are tough! I've got almost 10k...

    Looking for the right radiator

They are branded Denso and the side straps are stamped meaning they sit flush with the core support because the contours match. Aftermarket radiators are flat so the radiator will stand off the core support (one of the reasons the lower hose gets so close to the AC clutch).

    Looking for the right radiator

Exactly this, a bunch of us way back in the day had hybrid radiators built. They were better seemingly, a clean low efficiency 3 row was better than a dirty 2 row. A clean OEM 2 row is better and more than adequate if you can find one, an easier option would be upgrading to one from Kaliracer's...

Why can't we get this Triton here in the states!!!

Let's hope so but i could totally see Nissan making US pickups and Mitsu building them for the rest of the world.

Why can't we get this Triton here in the states!!!

Ha ha ha! Yeah, they call that the "J Line" it's how they got a better turning radius out of a very LWB truck while keeping the bed length. The swing must be like driving a bus, Jeep did the same thing with the Gladiator. We saw them on the Rubicon when they were testing, not one of them didn't...

Why can't we get this Triton here in the states!!!

If we get a truck it'll likely be an american made Nissan based truck and the rest of the world will get a Mitsu pickup. Kinda like how we get the Tacoma instead of Hilux, plus most Americans like bigger trucks so it just works out to where they can just make bigger pickups and avoid a tax. The...

    89 GEN1 ECU Swap

No difference between Montero and Raider however they did change for 1990. You can tell because they won't plug in to each other.
