    The old 1999 build thread

Installed some KC LED reverse lights a while back, not bad for $25 each and they seem rugged enough to handle some abuse.

Shovel is dead on as usual, so your truck has 4.88's? That means you have the 4 cylinder front diff, the Hyundai Terracan uses the 8" front and 9" rear with upgraded hardware. So you could get new 5.29 R&P for the rear but the front will need to come from an early Gen 2 Pajero with 4D56 engine...

Got a Gen 1 LWB, what now?

Pulled the AW3 out of my '94 today, the hard way. Scrapped the rest, hopefully nobody needed a good 24v 3.0 (watch I'll regret that). *If you noticed the oil that spilled when we flipped the thing over, yes i dug all of that contaminated earth up and disposed of it properly. Because here in...

    100mm CV Axle Questions

The OEM outers are really **************, they're like a hard plastic. On the inner rubber end, I've gotten some NOS factory rubber that was completely dry rotted recently.

    1999 Montero Gen 2.5 transmission ??

TPS can do some wacky things to these trucks since the ECU and TCU don't really talk.

Looks really nice, deeper gears would have made your MPG's better since you have 33's and the truck is always out of the powerband now. Good luck with the sale.

    IFS blowout sale!

It probably won't be bad Ok, I'll see if i have anymore. Might have to wait for the one on my truck.

    100mm CV Axle Questions

100 is stamped into the inner and outer cups, also on OEM boots. NTN 100 is typically what it says, sometimes CV 100. The 94-98 Montero with 3.5 or any Gen 2 with manual trans could be holding some never been used CV's in the salvage yard.

Got a Gen 1 LWB, what now?

I'm doing a bodylift to clear a Gen 2 transmission and superselect T-case too, I was originally going to do a stand alone wire harness to run the 1UZ in the truck but I can almost guarantee i'll sell this truck at some point so i'm going to do fully integrated harness into the Gen 1 Montero...

Got a Gen 1 LWB, what now?

Next up is emissions and rego. I'll put some miles on the LS400 while i get the AW3 pulled from the '94SR, the Gen 1 bodylifted and prepped for the V8 and Super Select.

Got a Gen 1 LWB, what now?

The 1UZ runs pretty strong and pulls nicely thrugh all gears, got the car all cleaned up and polished too. I want it to look nice for when i tear it down, here's a video of it running with open headers. Here's the trashed flex joint, this is why the car was so cheap. The car actually...

Geared right, it should. If you get a D44 go 4.88/4.90, if you get 1 tons go deeper like 5.13 or 5.38. Might help with the weight and definitely the 37's.

HELP. I am stuck with a monty on jackstands.

You need to remove the hub to remove the knuckle but you won't have to repack the bearings if you don't remove the spanner nut inside.

    Toasty's Garage

D44 front at 4.88 and Mitsu 9.5 at 4.90 for PA_JERO and I, alternatively one could do 4.56 and 4.63 gears if you didn't need to be so low. I had that combo in my SAS Mighty Max, you can't get the ratios too far apart though otherwise you could damage your drivetrain.

    Monteros on craigslist

Here is mine, I'd fix it eventually but I'm ready to let it go just to have less on my plate for now. It's actually a really good machine. https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/d/gilbert-1991-mitsubishi-montero/6816357630.html
