Ah, those. Yeah, that's a really easy job. Get a ratcheting wrench and make your life easy, a pro knocks that out in under an hour and charges you the flat rate which is removing everything. That's how mechanic shops work, that's how they make money by mastering their craft.
I know a lot of guys bend up their valve covers doing this job so it's a good idea to at least have a source for new ones. I didn't have an issue when i did mine at 60k (they didn't leak) miles with the timing belt just because. Getting ready to do them again at 70k (4 years or so) again not...
Remember Gen 1's have trunnions on bottom and they don't always cooperate coming out of the old shocks and into the new ones. Lots of guys have had problems here (not me, ever.) just something to be aware of.
Can you get Aisin timing kits, water pumps and fan clutches for us too? Not sure if those things can easily get plugged into your orders or not but Monteros require good parts too.
Just curious.
I've seen it twice before as well, on the Rubicon with Fullmonty's '06 it seemed the OME setup was allowing for more than stock suspension travel. Just a little bit but it was enough to dent the shock body and ultimately bend the shock. It could be a combination of the heavy loads and hard...
Real happy with Tokico Trekmasters, got them in eBay. Inexpensive, the fronts came in blue suggesting they are HP's but they came in Trekmaster boxes. Either way they are really well behaved like 4600's
Well, i forget the feeler gauge blade size and i haven't done it the "old" way in a long long time. I'll find the information and post it if nobody else beats me to it, basically you put the feeler gauge between the throttle stop and with your multimeter hooked up adjust the TPS to 0. If it's...
One thing you can do to uncracked manifolds is take a rotary file and take off the seams, this makes them significantly less prone to cracking. A step further is to polish the manifolds.
OEM OEM OEM, 555's have been OK and would probably last a while on stock tires. I've gotten 555's out of moog boxes, name brands are a crap shoot anymore. My last set of moog lower ball joints lasted about 40 miles (with 35's) though, went OEM after and logged about 5k miles on those (including...
When it comes to steering and suspension just throw parts at it. These things are old and cheap to rebuild, if you can't afford it all at once just do it in stages. Especially if the long term is lift and wheeling, do tires last.
Yeah i think you'll be fine with the new manifolds. My machine has been up some super long and steep grades being overloaded and I've yet to crack a manifold. I could be making this all up bit so far it's worked for me.
On manifolds, they don't crack if you make them breath. The Montero is a high RPM machine, it loves to be at or above 3,000RPM especially with a load. I've never had a set crack and I've logged 100's of k's in Monteros. Only my friends who lug them down in hills and under load crack manis. Just...
I'm not sure, they come labeled left and right and i triple checked when i installed because it looked different than i expected. Right is always your right sitting in the vehicle and I'm no engineer so i just went with what it said on the instructions. Stops 35's like a motherfu**er and...
