Gutted these yesterday, removed the inner axle seals and pinion races today then cleaned these pigs. Now i'm working on gear setup bearings (for hand removal and install), hopefully these will have new seals, gears and lockers in them tomorrow. Wishful thinking, today was a bit of a bummer with...

    GEN1 LWB 6G72 12V Engine Refresh

Do the rear main, been in that exact place and two times I've gambled with newer engines with perfect looking seals and lost both times. I hate leaks.

Bead blasted the yokes, i used silicone tape to protect the seal surfaces from getting damaged.

I'm using a 220v Millermatic 175, probably the least amount of machine for he job. I just went by the instructions, i have a hard time not doing things backwards or inverted. So hopefully my pictures made sense of how i set the truss. I know each application is a little different and we'll have...

Don't give me too much credit It's prepped within an inch or so to the weld, it's just hard to tell because of the smoke from the weld and how dark it is under the truck. Surface prep is my jam.

This is what I'm doing today, Peterbuilt torque rod mount. I do a lot of heavy axle repair.

Yeah, the good welders are at the mines here. They're making $60+ an hour plus heaps of overtime, as long as copper prices are high mostly bottom feeders are applying at shops.

It's a really small bearing, test and repeat.

I seem to attract other people's rework, lot's of "welders" out there. It's been impossible to hire a good welder at my shop, 90% of the guys i interview talk a big game then can't pass a simple weld test. It's like they've never welded before in their lives, all the good welders have felony...

I was starting to wonder if people were actually reading this thread since it's absent of any real tech and full of nonsensical BS.

Dude, the pitting from the previous repair was unreal for how little penetration they got on the actual weld. I did a single pass of .045 dual shield 71 Elite which is a way hardcore wire for what this thing is.

Today i just worked with Ernest removing the gears from the housings and forgot to take pics. Interesting other thing I worked on was this little drive shaft, they had hired a "welder" to fix it once before. It broke again and again so by the time i got it there was no longer a press fit between...

The new shop is pretty awesome, wish i could use it for Monteros. If i can ever find a couple of good welders to hire I'll spend more time out there.

You could try IR diagnosis or maybe pull the drive flange off and rotate the CV with the tire on the ground and listen/feel for bearing crappiness.

The other day the cartel tossed one of those crack sampler bags at my garage, not my thing but it came with a coupon for a free roof inspection!

Domestic 4wd vehicles have them too but they are often overlooked, it may not even be your problem. Just something to think look at.

did you replace the idle bearing in the spindle? It's what the axle shaft rides on, it's B-2012 https://www.autozone.com/drivetrain/axle-spindle-bearing/mitsubishi/montero-sport. It's not uncommon but not terribly common either.

Interesting philosophy you've got there, I'll stick to no Gods and i'll take it easy on the Micheladas. On a side note I should start a Montero restoration company like Mohenic except i'll call it "Power Bottom" that'll make great stickers. Maybe i can hire Mr.Powerfist!
