    Gen 3 boiling gas??

Boiling or bubbling? I've seen it a four times, something to do with the vapor system. The truck will eventually stall out too, we've had to run the things with the gas cap loose to get it off the trail or to camp. Seems to happen on elevation gains, i'm not sure of the cause but it seems to go...

Judging interest for group buy 4D56T (Hyundai D4BF)

Depends on what a good price is, some of those parts are not cheap to get. Though that would be a good buy since you already have a 4D55/6 donor engine.

    The old 1999 build thread

Almost finished, turned out OK. Wish I had gone down to 60 grit before painting but meh. I made the body pieces between paint coats, shaped then welded them in (fully welded but i forgot to take a pic finished). Still need to make some extra attaching points to the frame and new rear frame...

It was really hot yesterday, i was in the shade but wearing a thick jacket. Sweat was just pouring out of me to then point where it was dripping off my face and clothes. I hope to finish it today.

    The old 1999 build thread

After a bunch of days delayed I got back at the bumper build, just one more inside plate but i ran oot of steel. To stay productive i went ahead and finished the outside so it's basically ready for paint. It will be welded to the tow flange, frame rails and additional legs to the side of the...

    Montero reliable?

I researched this topic like a crazy person a while ago because i own one of these oddball transmissions. Been doing a tech document the past few weeks too so that way we all have easy access to that info. The Gen 3 and facelift Sports (2000+) got Mitsubishi Diamondmatic V4A51 and V5A51...

Got a Gen 1 LWB, what now?

I know but I'm pretty excited about the tapes. I have a lot of this stuff on CD or Vinyl already but a lot of it i don't have or only on vinyl or haven't listened to in a while so i need to do some roadtrips. It's going to be great.

Judging interest for group buy 4D56T (Hyundai D4BF)

Well, if you're already prepared for an engine there's no hurting it if you pull the head yourself. If you send it to Oakland is that price installed? Because that would be a killer deal, not to mention if you bought 2 engines there is a really nice 4x4 Delica that's been sitting for a few years...

Judging interest for group buy 4D56T (Hyundai D4BF)

The new Hyundai D4BH is like the old Mitsu 4D56 at about 100hp, the newest Mitsu commonrail 4D56 is at about 180hp and the old 4M40 is about 120hp and the new commonrail version 4M41 is almost 200hp

Cracked block?! Has this been visually verified? These engines have steel cylinder liners making them almost infinitely rebuildable and less likely to crack. The block and rotating mass are stout, the head can have a massive failure and not hurt the engine. I've seen these things overheated to...

Sometimes clicking is broken coil buckets, check near the welds of the coil buckets and trailing arm brackets. You may need to clean them up depending on rust, mud or oil on those areas to inspect.

Scangauge 2 Compatible with 1994 Montero LS?

Even the MUT-2 doesn't read 94-95 Monteros without the special harness which plugs into the OBD-2 style plug, the other plug and the 12v socket.

These engines are really simple, the Hyundai head can be purchased and installed on your engine to get you back on your way. The new heads are much better than the original Mitsu heads, i suggest spending a few hundred on a new head plus gasket and bolts. At least then you can R&R your cooling...

After a bunch of years of weird tubular rear bumpers and a very short lived boat side i'm finally working an an actual rear bumper for my machine. Montero reliable?

Rambo has it right, most reliability issues are from neglect. I have owned several over 200k miles and a couple over 300k, I've owned all configurations of Monteros sold stateside except Gen 3 with the 3.5. Each Gen has it's own set of issues but the most reliable are the Gen 1 V6 and any Gen 2...
