They'll open up a voting thread at the top of the page tomorrow or Sunday and include all of the stories submitted this month. The Maxx is also much quieter than the S/T. Forgot to mention that. Back to topic. I had no supplemental lighting and OE headlights last time I was in Canada. It...

:Wow1: They will actually still hang a man for that in 5 Southern states... Jack Daniels sells chips made from their whiskey-soaked oak barrels. It made salmon taste like manna from heaven.

The Maxx is better on the street in the wet, better overall. The S/T is slightly better in mud. Got a smokin deal on the S/T ---- will go back to the Maxx next time unless I win a set of the STT-Pros. Vote for my Canadian Border Crossing story tomorrow in Round Three of the contest...

I recommend a Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor such as fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, sertraline, or escitalopram. Not a fan of Coopers? Sorry, mate; I am.

Basics of Auxiliary Lighting for the Off-road Adventure and Camping Rig

When I first started playing with the lights on my motorcycles, MINIs, & Jeeps, I used spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes from the lab here to chart the PWM duty cycles (when applicable) and also hunt/seek any spurious RF created by the lights. RF, whether transmitted or conducted, can play...

    ideal tire size

I voted 285/75-16. I run that size and have run the others in the past. While I prefer the 255 for fuel savings, the 285 is easier to find if you're in a pinch. If they all fit I think the differences are negligible in performance.

Just as an example, this is what's on the front of my Jeep. High-dollar high-quality headlights and foglights in the LED category. A pair of very cheap LED flood cubes that give an optimistic 1400+ lumen rating (haha) and a pair of very cheap HIDs that put a respectable stinkload of light down...

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

I used my 52 last weekend for 3 days in 90+ degree humid Georgia sunshine. The ice lasted, the drain didn't leak. There was condensation on the drain though ----- the only place on the exterior. I ordered two cases of black ice, btw. I've used this stuff for a few years and it should see me...

They did measure the perception thing as best they could... ...remember that I work in a field that is all about measuring light. Different application, of course. But I carry a variety of fancy meters with me everywhere and measure every light that somebody will put in front of me. One of my...

Gotta say I agree with this. CRI, Color Rendering Index ---- LED is about a 74 and Halogen a 99 or better. Also less perceived glare with halogen, SPD (spectral power distribution) is better. There are good LED driving and foglights but they're pricey. And LED is perceived as 30% brighter than...

I'm a contractor for Agilent Technologies, the former HP unit that manufactures chemical analysis equipment. I'm the administrator of one of their training labs. Read this: http://blog.agilent.com/2014/08/14/why-you-attract-mosquitoes/ and this...

    Quality and Budget Coolers

I just got rid of my ARB fridge after 5 years of faithful service and bought an Ozark Trails 52... The fridge was great but needed power. Meaning batteries. Meaning tongue weight on my trailer. I have LED lights that consume almost nothing but that fridge needed two batteries for what we do...

Electronics? Just build one... Back when I ate meat, I had cheap one with a fire bowl, water bowl, and two racks. You had to check on it, refill the water, maintain the charcoal. Best ribs/chicken/salmon/turkey ever. PSA: ...remember that smoked meat is a carcinogen. I got cancer in 2010...

Peer Vote #2, COOPER DISCOVERER Round 2 Story Submissions

I've been running Coopers for years and never had a trail failure or complaint. Never had the STT-Pro though. STT, S/T, and ST-Maxx have all been great.

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

you're all wet! I finally used my 52 over the long weekend. It leaked. Profusely. Filled my drawer with water --- twice. I thought I hadn't closed the big cover enough so I tightened it after the first flood. 2 hours later I discovered flood #2 and saw that the little cap was leaking...

Cooper Discoverer: The Canadian Border Crossing

Hunger assuaged, we resumed our trek and eventually found a border crossing. Not one of those big border crossings that we're all accustomed to, the ones with long lines, surly customs agents, and Winnebagos with the Griswalds on board. This was rather a tiny border crossing, cute, remote...

Cooper Discoverer: The Canadian Border Crossing

It was right about this time that I realized that we were pretty low on fuel. I pressed a few buttons on Arthur and inquired about the proximity of a filling station only to find that my options were all in the opposite direction. Bummer. Just as I was about to announce my defeat and turn...

Cooper Discoverer: The Canadian Border Crossing

“You’re doing it again,” she said. “Arthur didn’t say to turn and you turned right. Where are you going?” My wife was right. Arthur was right. I was wrong for turning right… But it felt good because there were mountains to the right, dirt roads, trees, and the unknown. It looked...
