    MAC vs. PC

I've been using a Mac desktop computer and a mobile PC for a couple of years. Overall, I definitely like the Mac better. A lot of my nav software doesn't work with Mac. So, I'd suggest deciding on your timeframe and navigation tools of choice, and then determining if they are compatible with Mac...

    Who needs a 4WD when...

What a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee. Thanks Pierre! You're an excellent story teller. That photo of you and Martha at the waterfall is fantastic. :)

    DeLorme PN-40 - Unlimited 1:24,000 Topos/Satellite imagery for $30/year

Doesn't the PN-40 keep the position marker in the center of the screen now, so a complete screen refresh isn't required as on the PN-20 where the marker moves across the screen and the map is stationary until the marker reaches the edge of the screen?

    DeLorme PN-40 - Unlimited 1:24,000 Topos/Satellite imagery for $30/year

Hi Jack, I think Overland Navigator is really going to be innovative. As a beta tester, I can only share my info with the company, but as soon as I have production software running on my machine, you can bet that I'll be publishing a review on it. Stay tuned :)

    DeLorme PN-40 - Unlimited 1:24,000 Topos/Satellite imagery for $30/year

I like the DeLorme topo maps a lot. Their own vector versions of the USGS topos (the ones that the PN-20 uses for the regular basemap) work great, and you can also switch to the raster image topos (scanned USGS paper topos) so it gives you the added versatility of combining the digitized maps...

    235/85/16 on stock taco?

Hello Ian, I'll assume the truck is a 4WD and say "yes" the tires should fit with the stock suspension. Depending on the health of the springs and shocks, you may or may not experience a slight rub on hard compression, but likely not.

Any input on 255/85s and stock gears?

Congrats on your new 4Runner :) All 2WD and 4-HI driving aside, I think it will be the most annoying in 4-LO on the trail, when you are trying to drive slow and maintain some finesse in technical terrain. Especially with a manual. I would definitely incorporate that element into your test run...

    DeLorme PN-40 - Unlimited 1:24,000 Topos/Satellite imagery for $30/year

Please do! I haven't had a chance to play with the new PN-40 yet, but I'm anxious to get an ExPo member's review/opinion on it. I did a pretty extensive review of the PN-20 for Overland Journal last year, and I've been using one of them quite a lot since, and I use the DeLorme software on my...

Overland Video: Sale + New titles

Thanks Nic :) The Arctic video, yes. It has been delayed a bit, but we're still planning on it. As for the Expedition Trophy 07, I'm not sure on that one. We'll have to check with Desertdude.

Overland Expo: North America's First Overland Exposition

This is a dream come true for me. After all these years of seeing the huge overland/expedition oriented expositions and shows in outher countries, we finally have one here in the U.S.A. I can't wait to meet more overlanders and adventurists, and see all of the cool 4x4s and ADV bikes. We'll...

    Check out this souvenir

:clapsmile Nice job! That is quite a spike. Martyn, you are a tire repair god. I'll never forget repairing a tire on an old Ford for a father and son on a ranch in Mexico earlier this year. The son had been trying to get the tire to hold air using a piece of drip irrigation tubing folded in...

New Tom Sheppard book - Quiet for a Tuesday

Nice review Allen. The "next trip" is always one of the best things to talk about, isn't it? :safari-rig:  May we never run out of "next trip"s.
