Jeep Gladiator Build Thread - 18 months around Australia with The Road Chose Me

Hi all, I've always felt that when looking at an overland vehicle build and trying to learn from it, the actual WHAT of a given modification is not really that helpful. Sure someone decided to add product X, but the really useful bit is WHY they added that - what is the benefit? How does it...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I just drove a couple of the most iconic tracks in the Victorian High Country - and WOW!! Billy Goat's Bluff and Blue Rag Ridge are both ridge line track that go directly up into the alpine and do not disappoint. In my latest video I show you what the stunning scenery looked...

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

Indeed there was a lawsuit. I don't know the outcome. -Dan

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

Just to clear that up, that is absolutely, 100% not correct. AEV designed and manufactured their caddy long before Titan came out with theirs. AEV continue to make their own, nothing to do with Titan. -Dan

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

I never did use them, but you're spot on. I'm certain one of those walls on each side with a nice slope would make the rear 1250 much, MUCH more useful. -Dan

Hi All, For as long as I can remember I'm dreamed about exploring the Victorian High Country in a 4x4 - and it absolutely did not disappoint! Over a week we had absolutely epic adventures in the mountains - crossing rivers, exploring remote tracks and wild camping after seeing nobody for days...

Hi all, My new kitchen is here and fully installed, and I couldn't be happier!! I love to eat, therefore cooking is a huge part of my expeditions. Not only do I save money cooking my own meals, I also get to spend more time out in the wild rather than in a diner or drivethu lineup. Here I have...

    Gladiator Spare Wheels

Gotcha, thanks for the kind words! The Mopar Winter Wheels were fine with 285/70s with a 2.5 lift on my JK. I never had them with no lift, so I can't say if they'll rub. Good luck! -Dan

    Gladiator Spare Wheels

Do you prefer them over the Mopar winter wheel? (The Mopar winter protect the valve stem, I found them superior for that reason). I now have the Gladiator steelies on my Gladiator, had the Mopar Winter on my JK. -Dan

Wrangler now Hybrid Only in Europe

Indeed, many countries are already 100% renewable electricity (Ecuador, Iceland, many more) and basically all the big countries are rapidly getting there. -Dan

Hi All, After the desert sand and heat I have driven over to the "High Country" of Victoria, and I've been exploring on foot for a few days. I went hiking in the stunning alpine, exploring a trail that crosses from one ski resort to another. And yes, that is actual snow in Australia!! Now...

Wrangler now Hybrid Only in Europe

This is absolutely inevitable... next up I think we'll see a fully electric Wrangler & Gladiator, though I've been wondering lately if it will happen on the JL, or if they'll wait for the next revision of the Wrangler, due, I expect, somewhere around 2027-2030. Maybe those vehicles will be...

It does throw a good deal of light out sideways into the ditches and down lower than any of the other lights. It's already been helpful in thick fog, so it's a keeper for me. Given it's hidden in behind the front skid plate it doesn't add any "look at me / grab this" for an international trip...

I've never seen it before, but I gotta say right off the bat - mine was $175 AUD (about $125USD) and that thing you linked is $799 USD before any of the "accessories". -Dan

    Hinge/tailgate weight capacity on a '12 JKU?

Ha, small world! I only used the hi-lift for tire rotations (I didn't have any other jack). I don't have one now for my Australian expedition, and I doubt I'll ever have one again. In all honesty it was probably the most dangerous thing I had with me, and the chance of injury is too high in my...

Hi all, For my latest adventure I'm out exploring Big & Little Desert National Parks, learning how to drive my Gladiator in deep sand in preparation for the huge deserts I plan to cross later in the journey. I've never had an automatic before, so it's a learning process to figure out the right...

    Hinge/tailgate weight capacity on a '12 JKU?

For what it's worth, I ran the AEV rear tire carrier on my JK for 54,000 miles around Africa on the worst roads imaginable, then another 30,000 around North America without ever a single problem. I had approx a 100lbs spare on there, with a shovel, hi-lift and 2 maxtrax. I also had the fuel...

SEMA 2021 - Jeep Wrangler Overlook Concept

I really liked how everyone said that was going to happen for the JL, and then the *very first* marketing photos of the JL showed it with the windscreen down. I like to think that was Jeep giving the middle finger to the doubters :) -Dan

Hi Everyone, I've driven way over to the South-East corner of Victoria, a place I've never been before. With a huge storm coming in I got a good chance to really put the new batwing awning to the test, and get the Jeep dirty in some deep-enough-to-make-you-squirm mud puddles. I'm working hard...
