The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Hey Everyone, After a lot of asking around and phone calls, I eventually had 20 gallons of gas delieverd to Hippocampe. I paid three times the official price, just over $10 USD / gallon! Read the whole story here: http://theroadchoseme.com/brazzaville-congo After being denied the Angola...

Question for those with Mopar Winter Wheels on a JK

Ha, thanks! I'll be needing new tires by the time I reach South Africa, so I am looking at options. I can't get the KO2s in 34x10.5r17 there. (well, technically, they will still have lots of life by South Africa, but likely would then need replacement half way up the East Coast, where the...

I am really, really hoping so. The RAM 1500 and the GC with the 3.0 Eco Diesel do not. So they currently don't have a vehicle with a stick behind that engine. At 405 ft. lbs. of torque it will have to be a strong one.. Something like the Getrag 238 would do it. (used behind Hemis). When I asked...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Congo is turning out to be nothing at all like I expected! The one and only refinery is shut down, so there is a massive gas and diesel shortage. I bought from this guy on the side of the road for a 30% premium. Read the full story here: http://theroadchoseme.com/northern-congo Now I have...

Question for those with Mopar Winter Wheels on a JK

Hi all, What size tire are you running on the Mopar steel winter wheels without wheel spacers? 10.5 has been great, which is around 265. I am wondering if 285/70/17 will fit without rubbing. Thanks! -Dan

Who will buy Jeep from FCA?

While I don't disagree with you, electronics are an unfortunate consequence of the modern world. No vehicle can legally be sold without TPMS, ABS, Traction Control, Massive emissions electronics etc. etc. Jeep is just complying with laws on that front. As for the hellcat, I personally don't...

    Wrangler pickup will be JT

The 3.0 diesel in the Grand Cherokee makes 405 ft. lbs. of torque... that's more than a 5.7 hemi makes... I don't think "anemic" towing will be a concern, though of course the payload and towing capacity remain to be seen. -Dan

It looks like the first "clear" picture of the JL has surfaced online. My guess is that it's on the production line. https://www.reddit.com/r/Jeep/comments/6ttzac/possible_unwrapped_jl/ A friend was there last week and said she was allowed to see one close up, but obviously no photos and is...

I found this guy on the side of the road in Gabon, West Africa: He is a forest elephant, so is much smaller and darker than the savanna kind I will find further South. Of course he is still bigger and heavier than my Jeep. His skin is very dark, and his tusks are yellow and brown. I really...

It seems like the 3.0 V6 diesel will go into the JL, almost certainly for the export market - europe, aus, south africa etc. We will just have to wait and see if it will be sold in the North American market. We know the engine passes emissions, so it's really just if they want to or not. -Dan
