I Put My Kinetic Rope Inside The Spare Wheel

I recently did exactly the same thing to free up precious interior space. I even managed to loop in through my shovel, which is locked to the Jeep with a BOLT cable lock, so it can't be stolen. -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Hey Everyone, I am touring Angola and loving every second. I spent some time in the capital of Luanda, visiting the War history museum and camping with a million dollar view on the waterfront for free! More: http://theroadchoseme.com/luanda I camped out at Piedras Negras (black Rocks) then...

    New JL???

The leaked owners manual aboslutely 100% confirms there is an export 2.2 turbo diesel, and the 3.0 Eco diesel for the North American market. (Same engine in the GC and the RAM 1500) From the info we have, it sounds like the 3.0 diesel will be for next model year, so approx. 12 months from now...

    AEV Outpost II Wrangler

On Facebook AEV said the interior is not finished, and they won't show it until it's 100% done. Also mentioned this is to showcase their new "high capacity" suspension systems available in the coming months. (High capacity meaning good for heavy JKs) -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

I know everyone worries about bribery a lot when driving through the undeveloped world. Finally, I caught it on camera! Grab some popcorn and watch the reality of Bribery in Nigeria, the most notorious of all. This exactly mirrors my experiences from Alaska to Argentina and now on the West...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Hey All, I am absolutely loving Angola so far. After the mud slog through the DRC, I was absolutely ready for some beach-n-chill time. So I did exactly that. Read how the border crossing into Angola finished up: http://theroadchoseme.com/angola-awaits I moved towards Luanda, and found a great...

    Is my Jeep too heavy?

Mine is a touch heavier than yours, and it is something I worry about. My AEV 2.5" suspension was not designed for the weight, and I'm going to upgrade to the 3.5" when I can. Otherwise I am worried about the clutch taking the extra load - I am extremely, extremely careful to never slip it...

OFFICIAL: Jeep JL User's Guide and Owner's Manual Released!! With pics!

An internal powerpoint has leaked showing weight, towing max and payload. http://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/weight-tow-capacity-max-payload-for-jl-jlu-wrangler-and-jt-scrambler.1440/ Looks like the payload is basically unchanged, and the 3.0 diesel rubicon actually has the lowest...

Dometic CFX 35 fridge testing and dual battery system setup (VSR vs Ctek).

I have the CFX-35 also in my Jeep going around Africa. It's often well over 100F in my Jeep - probably even over 120F a lot of times, and this fridge is a trooper. Never misses a beat, always perfect. I have not measured the current draw, though based on my batteries I figured it was very low...

    Large Winter Tires

Having lived in the Yukon for 4 years, and Calgary for a couple, I can tell you an A/T is a 0/10 on ice compared to a dedicated snow/ice winter tire. I can drive any vehicle like it's summer when it is -40 outside and the roads are too slick to walk on, if they have studded winter snow/ice...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Hey All, The slog across the DRC continued, with - of course - more mud. The starter was broken on this truck, and we tried the winch. It didn't stand a chance, so we couldn't help. The guys were extremely thankful, and resumed waiting in the shade of a tree. These are the kind of villages...

OFFICIAL: Jeep JL User's Guide and Owner's Manual Released!! With pics!

Towing capacity has not changed from the JK. - though many people are saying this MIGHT not be the final revision of the info.. There are tons of bits pointing to a diesel (glow plugs, etc.) but of course it could possibly still be export only. Gas tank size is actually slighter smaller. No...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

The roads are bad enough to keep me slow, which helps alot. I think the 6 speed helps a lot too - I drive very slow and smooth, never rev higher than 2000 rpm, etc. If I ring it's neck I'm certain I could halve that mileage, but what's the point. -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

On good roads, keeping my speed to around 50mph (which is only possible on the best roads) I can make it sit right on 20mpg. I have verified the distance with GPS and hand-calculated that, so I know it's accurate. The computer is optimistic for the first 1/2 of a tank, then comes into line by...

    The Camo Jeep Expedition Build

The backspacing on my Mopar Winter Wheels is almost identical to the stock Rubicon rims, and I run them without spacers. I do have the AEV 2.5", but I don't think they would be a problem height wise. I'd be willing to bet your can run them on stock rims, and I bet you can find someone that has...
