JK: running both the ARB and Genright at the same time

I just looked in the ARB Australia catalogue. The 68L tank for the 4 door 3.6l JK is $1900 AUD plus another $770USD for fitting. When you add shipping, I'd roughly guess that's about what it would cost in $USD. -Dan

JK: running both the ARB and Genright at the same time

I like your plan, though I'd have one as drinking water and one as gas. I'm curious where you plan to go that you need such massive range? I drove AK to Argentina with a stock TJ 19 gal tank with about 375 miles of range and only once carried a jerry, and once ran about 6 miles short (because...

Dual battery / solenoid setup fell short on the convenience scale, time for an ACR?

I'm confused how / why your "starter" battery was dead? I have been running the "simple" dual setup with a solenoid for 18 months and 20,000 miles through West Africa and it's been absolutely bomb proof. I would never consider anything else in terms of simplicity and reliability. -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Merry Christmas everyone! I have driven into Namibia, country number 18 - without any signs or warning, I swapped to driving on the left for the first time on the expedition. This should be interesting! More: http://theroadchoseme.com/into-namibia -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Hi Everyone, After 3,088 miles - by far the most in any country so far - it's time to say goodbye to Angola. I have deeply loved this country, and I'm certain I will be back some day. After 6 weeks I have only scratched the surface. More: http://theroadchoseme.com/angola-ends I'm looking...

Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

I have a Pura UV 0.5 micron filter with a built-in UV lamp. It's not cheap, though it has been flawless through West Africa. Knowing I have safe drinking water is a must, so I wouldn't change it for the world any time I venture out of North America. -Dan

    Full JL Specs released

You'll get a 2.2 turbo diesel, and likely it will have a 6 speed option. In a lot of ways, I would prefer that to the 3.0 with auto. I will be interested to see what gets better mileage. -Dan

Extended Range Fueling Options: Opinions Needed

I have the AEV tire carrier on my Jeep, and I always, always lave the rear tailgate open at camp (it's my kitchen too). Even with the titan 13 gal full, and the 34x10.5r17 spare on a steel wheel, and a hi-lift, maxtrax and a shovel, the tire carrier has never moved in a fraction. It's rock...

Extended Range Fueling Options: Opinions Needed

I debated the options for almost 12 months for my JK I'm driving around Africa. In the end, any kind of custom tank was going to be $1500+, which hurt my budget too much. I run a transfer tank on the rear tire carrier from Titan Tanks. It's for any vehicle with a rear tire carrier, TJ...

on bord hot showe in 2010 jku- heat exchange with exhaust pipie?

Hi Kooke, I put a 35L water tank exactly where you are talking about, as a drinking water tank. I don't know anything about making a heat exchanger, but after a long day driving in 100F temps, the water that comes out of my tank is plenty warm for a shower just from being next to the exhaust...

    New JL???

The leaked user manual makes it explicitly clear. The 3.0 turbo eco diesel will be in the Wrangler for the North American market. (I agree, it's overkill for the Wrangler) The export market will get a 2.2 turbo diesel. (Which I personally think makes more sense) I will be curious to see what...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

That would be ideal, but these Jeep standard mud flaps are attached to the fender. Lesson learned, I won't run anything like it again! -Dan
