New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

Which is extremely disappointing. I hope they can at least get it into the JL in the coming months. -Dan

New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

I have a suspicion this 4 door one will be called the gladiator, and if and when they make a much shorter 2 door version, it will be a called the scrambler. AEV seem to think they will make a 2 door one. Fingers crossed. -Dan

New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

WOW. I can't even fathom how people can live with 12mpg. That blows my mind. I just filled up here for $4.45/gal, and that's not even the most I've paid. The diesel gladiator should be 25-28, that alone makes it worth buying compared to freaking TWELVE! -Dan

New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

Give that it has a 5 foot bed, I see no reason a whole bunch of the campers on the market already won't fit - Adventure Trailers Habitat, GFC, all those other new-fangled once that have been invented since I have been away, etc. But I'm with you, I'll be excited to see if anyone tries to bring...

New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

Of course, it's not like anyone is spending $60k - they're just making monthlies, and will likely upgrade to something else before they have even paid it off. In that regard, a vehicle always just costs $x per month, and you can have a new one every few years... (not the way I do things, but I...

New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

They're even saying it has 1600lbs load capacity and ~7000lbs towing. Best is class supposedly. I think this will be good! ... I'm already wondering how to replace that hard top with something Ursa Minor style.. but the flex between the tray and the cab will be an issue I'm sure -Dan

New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

It probably has a higher payload, it will have more storage space just to bring "more stuff", and slide-in campers and such will finally be an option for the Jeep crowd. Given it will have the 3.0 eco diesel that should be in the rage of 28+ mpg, I'd say it will be a hit for Overlanding...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Hi All, I roamed across Tanzania, finding remote places and friendly locals Tons more pics here : http://theroadchoseme.com/across-wild-tanzania And now I have driven into Burundi, the tiny country that labels itself "The Heart Of Africa". I had to swap back to driving on the right after...

Solar panels, fixed to the roof, adjustable on the roof, or portable?

The Renogy controller has an LCD, and all the features I could possibly need. I check it most days to see how my aux battery is doing, how much solar I'm making at any given time, etc. It's fun to see the solar production, then close the roof to change the angle of the panels, or clean the...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Thanks for the kind words! ... I have driven into Tanzania, which turned out to be the hardest border crossing of my life. I don't have a "Carnet De Passage" which is an international customs document for the Jeep, and so far I have managed every country without one. Tanzania didn't want a bar...

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

For anyone that uses their J30 as much as me, and has to deal with all the harsh sun like me, you might find the canvas slowly losing it's waterproofness after many hundreds of nights use (I'm somewhere over 800 now) Especially at the back corners I found water slowly seeps through the fabric...

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

I've had to tighten the bolts that hold those latches on, and then wound up adjusting the latches somewhat. I found it's a bit of trail and error - ie you can make the latches so you have to use *a lot* of force to close them, and the top is super snug, or you can use less force and the top can...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Yep, it was magic. We saw elephants up close, and the ranger didn't even blink when he spotted a lioness staring at us less than 50 yards away. He said lions are not a concern, only lone male elephants (unpredictable) and hippos on land. Luangwa is a magical place. -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Hi Everyone, I've been exploring remote parts of Zambia and absolutely loving it! This ferry across a hippo and croc infested river was a highlight - it's a bunch of barrels lashed together, and it's pulled across the fast-flowing river by hand! More on that here...

JK: running both the ARB and Genright at the same time

For what it's worth, I'm thinking about a water tank where mine is now (where the LRA goes) and a gas tank (maybe a TJ tank) at the back where the stock muffler is. Obviously would have to find a home for a tiny muffler, details to be determined. My reasoning for this is that 100% of the time...

I've been running the Renogy Charge Controller for two and a half years around Africa and it's been brilliant. Works exactly as it should, never misses a beat. -Dan
