The driveline came from a 90/91 Passat Syncro. Syncro was VW's first AWD system, very different from the Quattro stuff. Later generations are used in cars like the R32 and Audi TT.
It required welding.... rather than jack this thread I'll link to the build. http://forum.ih8mud.com/hardcore-corner/52322-fzj80-taco-6-speed-orion.html
So how many Toyotas does it take....?
I thought for sure the Unicat was just going to keep right on driving away after the recovery... that would have been classic!
Woohoo, you must be talking about the 1980's for that 5th gear swap.... been a long time since I've heard about that one! That was super easy, you could do it in the car.... you won't be that lucky with the Toyota.
Time marches on, these days you can opt for a nice 6 speed. Low first with a...
Recaro makes some of the best, a bit expensive, but good stuff is rarely cheap. Used seats can be had for a bargain though... check the usuals... ebay and craigs list.
The good, super cool 1980's fiberglass nose, 1200lbs dry, hydraulic jacks, can't keep the kids out of it. The bad, a little more rot than I first thought, but nothing that can't be remedied.
The super charger install was completed last week, it's fun to drive.... to say the least.
I also just purchased a 1988 Shadow Cruiser Truck Camper for $550. It's in fairly good condition for the age, and should make a nice base to build something fun and durable out of. I pick it up Friday...
Ok folks, I'm in awe of this one.... not sure if I should laugh or throw up... depends on what angle I look at it from. It'd make an interesting expedition vehicle to build up. :Wow1:

So your expedition has gone awry, you've insulted the locals and they are out for you. You need to make a quick exit... 504 hp from a TRD Super Charger will do it...
The bad part, $5k.
The good, 550 ft/lbs and factory warranty remains.

I just bought their gun and hope to try it soon. Super slick no clean up or mixing. The gun costs $700, the tubes run $25/ and 4 - 6 coat a truck bed.... easy to recoup the initial investment, split it between a couple friends...
Ok, how about some more current mods? I'm big into modding the driving enviroment to suit me. Good seats are highly underrated. While the stock seats are quite nice and fairly comfy, their one size fits all and lack of large bolsters can leave one moving around a bit in spirited driving and more...
The new engine is a retuned 1UR-FE from the Lexus. One guy just posted that driving real nice on his way home from the dealer netted 23.4 MPG over a 300 mile distance.... from a 310hp gas V8 pushing a full size truck weighing over 5500lbs!]
Not a problem on the hijack, it's all good info to have.
Cooling fin mania! I've noticed Aisin designing more cooling fins into some of their products in recent years. The 6 speed 2WD Taco tranny I swapped into my cruiser has a good sized grouping of fins on the bottom, too. I suppose with higher output more cooling is required.... I am considering...
There are no lockers currently available for the 10.5" diff. Actually, there are no traction devices at all. ARB has their air locker under development, pictures were published last year, but has put off production (specualting here), probably due to the economy. ARB will have the front locker...
Thanks Jim, I was begining to think there was no love around here for the 2nd gen. 1st gens are great trucks.
So with many overbuilt parts, durability should prove to be good. The sharing of much DNA with the sold world wide 200 series Land Cruiser could prove to be helpful if some parts are...
Hello folks, welcome to my Tundra build! This thread is not only about the build up of a 2008 Tundra for do it all service, but hopefully to show others that the 2nd gen Tundra may be a good choice for their expedition travels - possibly even for the round the world types. I'll try to hit on the...
I'm building my 2008 DC 5.7 as a doitall and promo vehicle for my business, which is aftermarket HD and performance for the 2nd gen Tundra (I'll leave it that since I'm not a vendor). I've been considering starting a build thread about it up in the Toyota section... maybe it's time?
Are you...
