Heck, I wish California hadn't frozen the 25 year rule in 2000! We'd be able to get 1989 vehicles by now, meaning 70 series Land Cruisers from Canada would be fair game. Stupid laws, grumble grumble.
Good catch, M6 x 1.00 is the screw size to fit the factory bed rail mounting holes.
If you're mounting them to the floor of the bed I think you can use normal 1/4-20 screws, us cargo control sells a set of screws, nuts and washers meant for installing these.
And we're back ...
So picky me wasn't happy with the panhard bracket that I bought, so I made my own.
Made the frame side brackets too, and got everything tacked in place.
The panhard bar is the same length and angle as the drag link, in fact from the front you can't see the panhard at ride...
Please post up when you get it installed, I'm interested in this as well. Looking to provide ventilation when under way with a dog in the back, and also as a hot air vent when camping.
I like the fantastic fans, but they stick up quote a lot, I think they'd look really strange on an otherwise...
I am currently conducting a very exacting scientific study as to how many knots a pair of tie down straps can tie themselves into when left to their own devices in the back of a truck bed.
I believe I will significantly contribute to Chaos Theory with my findings.
With Toyota and Honda both, I've always felt that 2-3 year used vehicle resale is close enough to new, you may as well buy new. I bought a '12 Tundra Double Cab 4x4 new, got it for $1500 more than a 5 year old used truck with 70k miles was selling for.
I get what you're saying, I really doubt its going to make much practical difference though. You're still adding 16" + the height of the rack to side profile of the vehicle.
15" tire sizes seem to be getting limited, I think 16" is the sweet spot for now. Lots of size choices that are not that expensive.
I was shocked how much more expensive 17" tires for my Tundra were tahn the 15" for my older T100. Forget about it with the stock 18" wheels.
Something else that occurred to me is you can cut down the bars, so if you bought the 78" bars and realized you've got an extra 10", you can cut them down to 68"
78" bars are going to be monstrous. I just put 66" bars on my 2nd gen tundra camper shell, and they stick out ~12" from each side of the roof.
If you use any kind of kayak cradle, you won't need as much width as putting them flat on the bars. The J-type (Hullraiser) are the most compact, and...
Man, glad I saw this yesterday, I was able to get a Diehard Platinum for my Tundra to replace the POS leaky stock battery at the sale price. Still can't believe how badly the thing corroded everything in just 20k miles.
www.mcmaster.com shows a bunch of options for 5 gallon water jugs, from $14 to $200. They appear to be called carboys. Not specific about FDA approval.
Truck looks good, very much the same route that I am going with my Tundra. I'm also working through the details of a sleeping platform (in my brain-cad program), hope to get it built this summer.
It doesn't seem like the shell and platform add too much weight to the back, what was your reason...
Check out truecar.com, I used them when I bought my '12 Tundra and it was pretty helpful to get an idea of what people are paying. I was able to get a quote from a big volume dealer through the site, which my local dealer matched (grudgingly).
A quick look at the toyota site doesn't show much...
