Pretty hard to see in the picture there how it's mounted. I know Yakima (and probably thule) make rack mounts that fit to the stock rails for a lot of cars, I had some on my Subaru WRX. I wonder if you could use tyhem on just 1 size, then build an adapter from that to the awning mounting points.
A Toyota T100 with the 3.4 V6 would get you real close to that 20mpg, especially with the 5 speed manual (if you can find one). Should haul a 1k lb camper decently, maybe add airbags or helper springs. You can get a 4x4 extra cab for under $5k.
Service beds are horribly heavy, I think you'd be...
As a data point my '12 Tundra Double Cab 4x4 with the 4.6 V8 gets a pretty consistent 18-19mpg on the highway at 65-70 mph. Push the speed and it does drop off. I did a trip this past summer from Bend, OR down through crater lake, lassen, tahoe and 395, trip average was 18mpg with all the...
I was thinking about using this mount that clips to the center console:

Then adding a RAM mount on top of that for my Nexus 7 tablet for GPS.
Thanks, they're the Rock Warrior package wheels with the bling rings removed. The only 17" wheel that fits the 2nd gen tundra with a reasonable offset.
I personally feel that tinted front windows are a safety issue, if I can't see you and can't tell where you're looking I will always assume you arent paying attention and are about to do something dumb that puts me in danger. Force of habit left over from my days of commuting on a motorcycle. I...
Thanks. The stock minivan tires are holding up annoyingly well, but I think I will be pulling the trigger on some Toyo AT2's for the 17" rock warrior wheels I have this week finally.
Picture was taken in front of the 'Drive in Mine' (no clue if that'sd the real name) north of Lone Pine this...
I've yet to build the filler neck that will be inside the bodywork, I have some ideas on how to make it work though. I've been waiting to get the fenders cut and cycle the rear suspension so that I can make sure the filler stays clear of the tires under full articulation.
The rails are working out well. I added a camper shell to the truck, and am using these clamps (LINK) in conjunction with the L-track threaded fittings to secure it. So far i've not noticed any shifting of the shell at all.
Bonus Feature - the ring type fittings make for a decent fishing rod...
Traveling with the dog is one of the reasons I really like my truck (Double Cab Tundra) :)
I have a 'hammock' that clips onto the front and back headrests and covers the back seat, this is where she usually rides (with a harness connected to the kid seat anchor). This leaves quite a bit of...
What generation tundra?
I have a second gen (07+), I mounted a Tekonsha P3 in the pocket between the 2 12v power ports in the center console. Its right ahead of the shifter, and I can get to the manual lever very quickly if needed. I think the factory wire harness was long enough to reach from...
