    Communication options

It isn't possible to use your cell phone with a ham radio. Some repeaters have an auto patch which you can access using dtmf tones and make phone calls. Most times you need to be a member of the club that maintains the repeater to get the tone sequence. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Swingaway tire carrier for rear bumper

I was going to use this on my Disco until it committed suicide. This swingaway mounts on a trailer spindle that can be purchased at any trailer supply and many farm stores however, It isn't included. The "hub" is welded to the carrier. This carrier is very well made, and the tire bolt pattern...

    Next Model for New Adventures

What Dendy said x3. It seems to be a given now on '04's. Mine went at 71kmiles and it had been impeccably maintained. Other than that, it was an amazing vehicle. Whoever engineers a kit to swap in a vortec v-6 or v-8 and correctly integrate all the electronics will be a rich man. I'd be all...

    Lucky 8’s Project P38

Condolences man. Btdt and I feel your pain. What is it about these machines that makes them want to kill themselves and rip your heart out. I think rovers are the equivalent of a gorgeous British woman you meet and immediately fall in love with. Then she eventually smiles and you see her bad...

    FJ vs Tacoma vs 4Runner

We just finished a 3k mile shakedown cruise with the new FJ. We had gear for 2 adults for 10 days. The Oztent and 1 large Pelican case on the roof. It worked great for 2 adults, but if there were any children, it would have been pushing it. I removed the bases for the rear seats. Pros-...

    Delorme Gazetteer Storage?

I found a large laptop case at work that was being disposed of. I removed the adjustable padding and our Gazetteers fit perfectly. Plus it was free! The pockets are handy for highlighters, etc.

    Okies head for Georgia

We met some very cool people on the AT. The Rainwater's and their 8 & 15 year old sons sold their farm and have taken 7 months off to hike the whole 2181 miles of the trail. We will be following them on their blog http://rainwater2012.com If you are in the area, you have to.see Anna Ruby falls...

    Okies head for Georgia

We spent the night there after a wonderful dinner and comaraderie with the other guests. One was a young Russian, Andreyev, who had tantalizing stories of off roading and mountaineering in Siberia and Kazakhstan, he and his girlfriend were a blast to hang out with. We awoke to sunrise on the...

    Few ?'s about discovery II

I just recently got rid of an '04 D2 due to block issues that appeared at 70k miles. It was perfect for my wife and I with 10 days worth of food and gear. I loved that truck, but the price to repair it correctly was going to be in the $4500- $5000 range, and I was still leery about the...

    Land Rover Disco II stuff

Done. Getting rid of it was hard even with the issues. It was a great rig for what we used it for. If someone could engineer a swap with a 4.3 Vortec V-6, and figure out how to integrate the electronics correctly, I'd have kept it.
