The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

In hindsight the engine swap was a bad idea, but I don't regret trying. I was hell-bent on it, and if I had not tried it I would be sitting here right now saying "I wish....". Now that I tried (and failed) and least I can sit here and say "well, I know how that goes..". Obviously it was a huge...

Smittybilt Overland Hardtop for Jeep JK

Those interior photos are tantalizing - it's screaming to move the roll bar even further out of the way than I did to really open up the inside! -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Because that's what I had in front of me to drive on in North America. Obviously I won't be going that fast and things will be very different. I'll calculate it when the conditions better match what I'm expecting! No, unfortunately they don't make one and I ran out of time to try and make...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Thanks for the input. I've got the stock 22.5 gal tank and the Titan 13.8 gallon tank on the rear tire carrier. I little while ago I hand-calculated it's returning 18.4mpg at 62mph over 1000mi. With the 13.8 gallon Titan Fuel Tanks mounted on the tire carrier, total range is ~650mi...

Good point. The tank weighs basically nothing when empty, but it does space the spare out quite a ways. Does your tailgate sage when open with the tank empty? -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Hi Everyone, My name is Dan Grec, I previously drove my Jeep Wrangler from Alaska to Argentina. I blogged the entire way on my blog The Road Chose Me, and I had a thread here on Expo. After that adventure I sold my little Jeep and have been living and working in Whitehorse, Yukon. I've been...

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. Sucks. For what it's worth, my AEV carrier is built like a tank, and doesn't move budge no matter what I put on it. It's also easy to open the whole rear everything with one hand, and it has quite a bit of weight with the spare+hi-lift+max traxx+shovel+titan...

It's an ongoing question for me too. I also have a Mr. Funnel that's going to get smelly that needs a home. Right now I have them in the heavy duty plastic bag, in the rear cubby, which I made a steel lid for. Time will tell if the fumes will be too strong. Maybe leaving them in the sun for 5...

Nice! I'd love to see photos if you have any. I completely removed the sound bar and speakers, and did not re-mount them anywhere. I also took out the rear sub, so I only have front speakers now. I rarely listen to music, so I don't miss them, though it's plenty adequate with the windows up at...

2.0L turbo four for the new Wrangler?

Sounds nice... Like the 3.6L engine we have now. What you said is that with light driving we have great mileage, and with a heavy foot we have fuel consumption like we have now. Sounds great to me! -Dan

    2018 WRANGLER

I tend to agree. I honestly think 3.0 and 400 ft. lbs. is too much for the wrangler, especially the 2 door. The only reason (and it's a big one) they might go for the 3.0 ecodiesel is that it's already in the parts catalogue, and dealers are already trained in servicing it, etc. -Dan
