    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

I left the entire roof White, as I wanted maximum cooling for Africa, and I think it will look good on my Silver Rubicon. I opted for both rear windows to be the sliding/opening kind. I got the overhead map pocket/organizer. I passed on the USB outlets up top or up front, as I've wired in a ton...

The Brute Rebuild / Refurb / Rehab Thread

Good luck, I hope it comes together for you. I'm learning first hand how much more involved a diesel conversion is that I had ever dreamed. Hopefully I'll be in AZ in the 1st or 2nd week of October. -Dan

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

Had a great phone call a couple of days ago with John from Ursa Minor. He was gracious enough to take the call over his lunch break, and was more than happy to walk me though all the various options, and answer every question I had and then some. After literally years of planning, it's amazing...

Different Strokes for Different Folks JK Wrangler Hood Vent

Very nice! It looks really clean and matches your grill nicely. I have no doubt it's doing a lot - the engine bay of my 2007 JKU is always roasting when I stop driving. How does the vent open? i.e. does it automatically close and open with heat, or you do manually open it and it then stays...

Fooling the computer on a 2007+ JK Wrangler for mechanical diesel

Thanks, I've sent them an email asking about it. Their site says they don't sell the computer flash they perform separately, but they will sell a "Trigger Wheel" and "Sensor Bracket". They also sell a wiring harness (though again won't sell it separately) - I'd be interested to know what that...

Fooling the computer on a 2007+ JK Wrangler for mechanical diesel

Hi All, I'm right in the middle of swapping a mechanical diesel into my 2007 JK Unlimited Ruibcon, and I'm researching and trying to understand how to best fool the JK computer into thinking the engine is running so I get the stock tach to function, etc. My understanding is that most people...

Would you be interested in selling the tires separately to the rims? Thanks, -Dan

Jeep dealer meeting sheds light on future models

Photos have shown up of what appears to be a JK with a bigger cowl: http://www.autoevolution.com/news/new-2018-jeep-wrangler-spied-testing-in-the-desert-will-grow-in-length-99641.html# It's pretty clear there is something strange about the whole drive line - like it's lower than it normally...

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

I actually stumbled across a copy of the Long Way Round book back in about 2006 when I had never heard of Overlanding and had never dreamed any kind of world-travel-adventure dream. It made me dream big enough to think I could do something similar - and three years later I did! That, and...

Video of my JK with all mods and specs

Great video! Really inspires me to do something similar for mine when it's done. Awesome places you get to as well! How have you got that front number plate attached so you can still use the winch? Thanks, -Dan

    Triple-purpose JK Build

You won't need them. I'm willing to bet you can't get more than ~150km from a gas station in all of central America. Probably more like 75km in 99% of cases. -Dan

Recommend a brand / kind of water filter for 4x4 setup?

Wow, that's amazing, thanks, that gives me some really great input on what I want/need. -Dan

Recommend a brand / kind of water filter for 4x4 setup?

Thanks for the link. The 3.5 gal/min @ 55psi is just the rating on the shurflow pump I bought. ...Maybe I didn't get the most appropriate pump? Now that I'm leaning towards a UV-1 http://www.purauv.com/puraundersink.htm , it is only rated at 1gal/min anyway, so I assume it will slow the flow...

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

The engine swap was a hard decision to make. Time will tell if I've made the right choice - if I'm compromised long-term reliability of the drive train, it will have been a mistake. I'm committed now, so I will run with it :) I'm probably shipping Halifax, NS to wherever is cheapest in...

    Triple-purpose JK Build

You'll be driving a lot slower than normal in Central America as the roads and traffic just don't allow high speeds. I'd be shocked if you still only get 12mpg when not going faster than about 70km/h -Dan

    Triple-purpose JK Build

Absolutely drive down! it's not nearly as far as you think - from the middle of Mexico to middle of Colombia I only did 10,000kms, and I like to zig-zag alot! You'll be camping for basically free everynight and cooking all your own food so you don't need to spend a ton of money - I did it for...

Recommend a brand / kind of water filter for 4x4 setup?

That looks like a nice one-stop solution, but you're not going to use it for drinking water? Do you think it's not good enough? How do you think it compares with the Pura UV-1 on this page: http://www.purauv.com/puraundersink.htm ? Thanks, -Dan

safey concerns of getting a 2015 rubicon stolen in baja?

I drove my soft-top wrangler 40,000 miles from Alaska to Argentina, and never locked the doors once! In Mexico my guitar was stolen from it (I left it parked on the street overnight, stupid) In Argentina some camping stuff was stolen from it by a bunch of drunks. That's it. -Dan
