Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

Here is the recipient of 002. One seriously cool, turbo'd FZJ80 with a test fit of prototype 001. 002 will be on this rig heading west to Cruise Moab very soon. Keep an eye for it. A couple notes: This will be a direct mount to get the tent as low as possible. Total height (from roof) is approx...

Custom designed hinge. Sewed all 3 myself. On the hunt for a vendor to assist with the others. Tucking material - no problems.

Sorry, I don't think this tent would be a good solution to your need. The top will only hold very limited amount of weight (yet TBD). There are other potential directions that could be done. If you are interested in a completely custom alternative, contact me directly.

Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

I am planning to move forward with making these in a bespoke / custom way at 3-5 units per run. Once testing is done this summer, I will likely open up orders on a first come, first serve basis. Each tent will be given a specific number (ex: RTTx001, RTTx002, RTTx003 and so on). 16 different...

I will likely offer two sources for mattresses. 1. a traditional foam source (thefoamfactory.com) so you can select your preferred foam density and thickness. If you do a 2" foam, there is still enough space to store some bedding. 2. the NEMO Cosmo 50L insulated, inflatable mattress fits...

Howdy folks - much work has been completed. Finally got the prototype (001) up on the 4Runner. Very, very satisfied with the results. Side note - 002 is underway and is looking fantastic. 002 is due to be mounted on an FZJ-80 in about a week or less. Stay tuned. Fits in the Garage...

3 forums posted about the tent. 1000's of views and 800+ followers on FB. Out of all that, 3 guys (1 from each forum) ask to have an individual update. I'll do my best. (y)

I understand where you are coming from (aka...similar to the old "CampTeq" style hard shell that was designed for the 80 Series. However - most people do not want to cut an opening into the roof of their vehicle. I preferred the versatility to remove the tent if desired.

Upper rack - potentially with limited weight. The low profile nature required some slimming down of the lid portion of the tent. Rainstorm - There is a rainfly (not shown in the pics) that allows the back window to be opened up. Once I get everything mounted up I'll post up some more pics. C

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Supposedly, you can call up Genasun and they will custom configure the controller and then ship. Even with all the literature I read on this particular controller, nowhere did it mention that I could call them to configure it. This whole LiFePo4 scenario out there is bizarre. Seems like some...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

To all who have responded - thank you. The information that has been relayed is fantastic. Since I did my last research, much of the information has been (ironically) removed and/or replaced. I am very curious to learn more about the batteries I have been using. What I have learned - these were...
