    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

In contrast I also have a ‘97 E350 Ambo. We bought it about 8 years ago. It’s a heavy rig that was maintained sparing no expense for the first 10 years & 200k miles. For the next 7 years & 35k miles it was privately owned and had some maintenance, but it needed an alternator and a rear spring...

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

I’m always amazed by @PlethoraOfGuns and everything he accomplishes. Age of the rig is a factor, but it seems he has also had a lot of bad luck. It makes me wonder how well the rig was maintained. It also reminds me of something I heard years ago… a single loaf of bread seems light, but a truck...

10 year old-ish van: Econoline or Express?

The building contractor around the corner from me has had a surprising amount of work done to his GM van of that area. He works it hard but it’s his own, and he’s now mostly retired now. He’s not a young punk driving it like he stole it. Our ‘97 E350 ambulance with 250k miles has needed much...

Van Advice: Used 4x4 vs. 2WD and conversion

I’ve never had a 4wd van. I’ve got an excellent 4x4 that’ll get me much further than a full-size van will ever go. At least in these parts, a full size van might as well be a city bus for wheeling purposes. Now that I’ve said that, I’ve had the same 4x4 since ‘91. Getting home on your...

e450 7.3 Diesel vs v10 vs wait 10 years for 7.3 gas cutaway as a base for custom camper box

I’m always shocked by what rigs are going for. My ‘97 E350 7.3 PSD Ambulance wasn’t drivable when we bought it for about $1000 USD. For about $30 we replaced the brake line to the rear, bled the brakes, and filled up the brake fluid. We’ve had it 8 years now. Maintenance wise we’ve replaced the...

    97 E350 Crestline Ambo Build/Mod

Sway bar mounting has been on hold. We are expecting snow here around Christmas, so I’ve been focusing on the 40. Since there’s not much happening on this forum, I thought I’d share some pics of what I have been doing. I’ve added a tension adjuster to make tensioning the pump belt possible...

    E350 steering box

reading through this leads me to believe that your pump wasn’t putting out enough pressure. You could change the box 5 times, but if the pump pressure isn’t enough, it’ll make little to no difference. That said if the box is shot, extra pressure may not help. I’ll conclude by saying that I’m...

    E350 steering box

There are a number of easy ways to increase pressure and volume of Saginaw pumps. I can now steer my Fj40 with the palm of my hand while stationary. I believe E350s use Saginaw pumps… but it may vary depending on year, engine, and other variables.

    E350 steering box

Before replacing a box, consider adjusting the worm gear preload: https://www.midweststeering.com/wp-content/uploads/Sag-525-Serv.pdf Edit: After a google search, it looks like this may be different on E series boxes… although the same principles apply.

    Build/question thread: 1997 Ford e-350 7.3

While things are torn open, I’d consider replacing the fuel filter. It’ll be easier to access now while it’s open. I’d also closely inspect the fuel bowl for leaks. If in doubt replace the O-rings… DieselORings.com had them for about $6. Be sure the Shrader valve on the out side of the bowl is...

e450 7.3 Diesel vs v10 vs wait 10 years for 7.3 gas cutaway as a base for custom camper box

I’m very happy with my ‘97 E350 7.3 Ambulance. Couldn’t be happier. In 7 years, and about 2000 hours I’ve had very few problems and it hasn’t needed much maintenance. When I bought it the alternator was dead, the fuel bowl (filter housing) had minor fuel leaks, and a new glow plug relay. The new...

Sleep 7 in e-350 eb?? Am i nuts??

There’s a really easy way… lots of space… everyone gets a 8 hour sleep… been done in the navy for decades… ? Sleep in shifts. The most you’ll ever have is three on the bunk. Having a type III would also help.

She’s just over a year old now. About 10 months when that picture was taken. He mom was a Black Lab and her Dad a Great Pyrenees. The two brothers I saw were white with black markings, and she’s black with white markings. Recently her coat has started showing brown undertones as well.

    AmboLander

I think you’ll need some bigger D ring shackles. ;) Is your goal self recovery or recovering of others? For self, your need a 16k+ winch. The general rule of thumb is 1.5x your rigs weight. A good 8k might do it if you’re double lining it, but then you’ll need to get even more complicated if...

    97 E350 Crestline Ambo Build/Mod

It has been a project since 1991. Here’s a link to its thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/my-40-build-20-years-and-counting-purists-beware-this-may-hurt-d.548277/ It’s a large part of why I’ve got no plans to convert the Ambo to 4WD. With 33s it’ll run circles around a huge 4WD in these...

    97 E350 Crestline Ambo Build/Mod

They are nice. I could theoretically have cobbled something together, but it was a steering and it was worth doing it right. The parts made hooking up the parts up super easy.
