    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

My Ford 7.3 has about 17k hours on it. I used to be somewhat concerned about it until a friend told me one of the tow trucks he used to drive had its hour gauge pinned at 99,999 hours. When he was driving it, it had been there for several years without needing major work. And he said it would...

    Hambo aluminum poptop

Do you have any regrets about not making it wider? I’m sure there’s a long list of pro/cons.

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

Now all you need to add is a “Sure Start” switch like the Ambos have. A momentary on switch, a pair of relays in parallel (for redundancy), and ____ feet of 00 wire and you’re set. Slow cranking? Reach over and hit the Sure Start, and you’re house batteries are momentarily combined with your...

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

Makes me want to look at the E350 front end and see if I can mount up something similar without too much headache. On the rear the 16,000 lb hitch and Pintle hitch will work for dragging things out, but there’s nothing on the front.

Bob the Campulance. E350 Crestline with Roof Raise. V3 in Progress.

I’ve not done any camping off the beaten path in many years… so I’m not there yet. Maybe the future will bring more of it, but I’ve been trying to get to that stage for about 15 years and I’m not there yet.

Bob the Campulance. E350 Crestline with Roof Raise. V3 in Progress.

I’ll keep it in mind if I decide I need another 4x. $2k doesn’t seem unreasonable for what you get. I’ve heard someone local paid $6k for a solid front axle swap in a smaller 4x4… and that’s just one axle and the front suspension. I don’t need one since, even “stock”, my 40 series can run...

I’ll be following along to see how the 4x conversion goes. i checked out the expo site… no prices. Do you mind if I ask the ballpark cost on his kit?

    HazVan - 2002 E-350 SuperDuty 7.3l PSD

I watched a 7.3 PSD YouTube video where the shop owner said that’s how he tests new diesel mechanics. If they can pull the fuel bowl and put it back in without loosing it… they are hired. I felt good when I heard that. I’ve done it, it was an ugly job. Mostly just time consuming, awkward, and...

    HazVan - 2002 E-350 SuperDuty 7.3l PSD

DieselORings.com A kit with new O Rings was about $7 for the best ones when I did mine. I’d install a new filter and a Monster Glow Plug relay while you’re at it also.

    HAMBO's trailer

Cool find. It’s a lot like the deal I got on my ‘97 Crestline. Sometimes a deal crosses your path that’s too great to pass up. Let me know what you’re doing with some of the spare electronics… there are a couple things I’d like to get my hands on if they weren’t stripped already.

Ford E-350 Ambulance trailer wiring help needed.

For power and charging I connected to the ambulance circuits and “house” batteries. There’s more power available there than the OEM trailer relays would ever provide. If you’re still running a diode isolator I’d highly recommend switching to a Blue Sea ACR (or equivalent). Deep cycle batteries...

    97 E350 Crestline Ambo Build/Mod

And for all the random sewing projects that come up on an old rig… 40, Ambo, whatever… American made, built in the late 30s-40s, 5/16” material capacity, 220v, 1/3 hp variable speed motor… should handle whatever I need it to. :D No frills, built like a tank, straight line, lock stitch, no...

    Auxiliary fuel tanks

@mgmetalworks made dies to press an opening into the side of his Cummins van conversion. I’d find using an electric pump to fill the tank would be a pain to use regularly.

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

16k miles for a rig you dragged out of a field and brought back to life is a lot. My Ambo has been an exception, but on an old truck I expect to put $1000/year into it. 16k miles is more than many of us are putting on in two years… so you aren’t doing bad in my books.

How do you build a legal safe bench seat convertible to bed?

I’ve got one similar. It came out of an ‘89 Ford conversion van. It has a platform behind the bench that makes for the top third of a queen sized bed. It’s reasonably comfortable… for a car seat. It’s better than most sofa beds. With a memory foam topper it’s pretty good.
