My 2015 Nissan Titan showed all of our FS roads during last year's ID BDR trip (although we were using a stand alone GPS with the actual tracks). It also has a slot for a removable SD card that would allow you to upload different maps such as Europe if needed. I have never fiddled with it...
Just because you pay more through a dealer doesn't mean you're not getting a headache. These trucks tend to be an electrical nightmare that can pop up at any time and I imagine Midwest Military's warranty stops at the end of their driveway so paying them $20k more than they paid the government...
If he paid $20k for the base truck he bought on the retail market and paid too much. I sold mine with new tires, new cargo cover, and air conditioning for $14k.
At GovPlanet you can get the truck for $6-8k and the trailer for under $2k so let's say $10k for the combo. That leaves $30k to build out the box and paint the truck and still break even selling it. Personally I think it's a tad overpriced for something that can only do 58 mph on flat ground...
I paid $5 for the part and fixed it myself. The comment was more towards how a company loses a lot more than the cost of the part by having a twit for their representative.
FrenchieXJ can attest to the time I spent on the IDBDR last year setting up and taking down a "reasonably priced" RTT. That combined with the amount of dirt I accumulated removing and installing the travel cover every time I deployed it or put it away was enough to convince me I needed to spend...
I wish you had posted this Friday. I just got back (I mean at 2pm today) from driving to Prescott, AZ for a smaller, much more used, older JB. Between what I spent on the tent, travel expenses, and my time I could have spent a couple hundred more and had a better tent.
If you’re in the market I have a slightly used Gordigear with annex and an awning in the Classifieds. It’s just north of San Antonio so we could meet up for delivery.
I think there’s a big difference between a kit car and one built by a manufacturer. Texas has one of the best Former Military Vehicle laws in the country and while I can empathize with the kit car/sandrail group losing their ability to register their vehicles we’re a long way from that happening...
I grew up in Grangeville so know what you're talking about (although we had no interstate around us). Unfortunately I had mine in TX so it was many miles between spots to hit dirt.
They're fun when they're running but sloooowwww on the highway. I never got mine anywhere close to dirt as it was used solely for military appreciation events (parades, airshows, etc) but I do miss it now that it's gone.
I like the regular weight Carhartts and wear them every day ( have over 20 hanging in my closet). A clean pair of jeans, 2 shirts and underwear all fit nicely in a school size backpack so I can make it through an airport without too much hassle. May not be as "stylish" for some that may like...
