The ends of the slats sit on the 80/20 extrusions and are held in place with VHB. Due to natural variation, some slats don’t quite reach so I added a small bracket to the 80/20 with VHB to support those slats that were a bit too short.
By not having to buy 2 sheets of plywood and a Froli...
No final weight but reasonably light based on the amount of 80/20 I used. I had strongly considered Coosa or similar but 80/20 ends up being a lot cheaper and easier to work with. You can save weight by skipping the under bed panel and froli for just IKEA slats. I had a Froli kit to install and...
I am a little late to this and it seems like you’ve gotten a lot of good ideas for using Coosa for your build. In case you’re not fully committed, here is an alternative: 80/20:
I made our bed into a lifting platform over a storage area. Ikea slats instead of solid panel for the bed base. The...
I totally agree that this is a viable option and should be part of the decision making process.
Also, I was fresh out of that many 4x4s and spare wheels for the install. 🤷♂️
I just got a set of front and rear Alcan leafs and they are amazing. I have approx 1200 miles on them. I regret not getting them sooner. Currently, the truck has Fox 2.0s; ADS 2.5s are on the floor of the shop waiting for install, but, to be honest, I can't imaging them making as big of an...
Sorry, was not meant to be a "pick me" kinda post. I don't want to derail your thread. I'll update my own build thread eventually once meaningful experience has been obtained.
As others have said, don't do it. They will not provide enough power to run the EXPO EXTREME roof lights you're imagining. They could be used to trigger relays, but then you'd still have to run larger gauge conductors for power and end up doing the work you're hoping to avoid.
Also, no amount...
I acknowledge that the OP has made their choice at this point but it is hilarious that this thread is now 15 pages long and one of the most consistent pieces of advice (in a thread asking for advice) is to avoid diesel.
Back in 2018, the migrant caravan held up my Ram 3500 so long that I ended...
I am friends with one of the guys who works there. He is a great fabricator, although I don't know he is the guy that makes their flatbeds. Knowing him, I'd work with them without hesitation, although I know nothing firsthand about their work.
Looking at their website (fine print at the bottom...
No one has ever said, "I have way to much power." You'll want as much as possible if you're planning on running AC.
Anyhow, this is a fun project and you'll enjoy it for sure.
I got to see Craig and Angie's truck in person and it is unreal. I've been inside a handful of similar vehicles over the years and tbh nothing apart from GXV's Patagonia and a Blissmobil I saw at Expo compared. Their attention to detail is amazing! I think they've set a new high-water mark for...
I have an Alumna flatbed. The overall quality is meh but it does what I need it to do perfectly. Installed, it was $5k. I see your plates are CO - I got it from Four Corners Trailer in Bayfield.
A friend happens to resell used panels (he's in MT) and has never had an issue, either with...
I've just finished a similar build using a custom Total Composites box. Like you, mine is built on a turn-of-the-century Super Duty. I am over GVWR and you will be, too. Whether or not that is a turn off is up to you.
I would strongly consider using an off-the-shelf aluminum flatbed to save...
Man, that is super disappointing! Although certainly not the same magnitude, I had a slightly similar post-sale experience. They were super helpful beforehand, less so thereafter. This is now a big problem for you and anyone else that wants these great seats - hopefully, Scheel-Mann will figure...
I plan on doing something similar, so whether it is good or bad, I don’t think that it is crazy lol.
Why just a 450 though? Why not just get the maximum capacity in the same size package for basically the same cost?
Not sure what mods you’d be worried about doing that would prevent you from...
The arrangement of panels, hatches, etc is definitely an exercise in patience. In this regard, the assistance from our builder, Pronghorn Expedition Vehicles in building out the panel arrangement via CAD was invaluable. We are using SunPower flexible panels (100w x8) - rigid home panels are much...
This all seems like a great build to me.
IMHO, I would delete the generator, the WeBoost (since you’ll have Starlink), and propane. I think solar and LiFePo batteries have come along enough to provide all the power you’d need. Of course, I don’t actually know what your power needs are so the...
I am vain and I think that the long overhang would look weird on a single cab. The cab over doesn’t care, however.
The side panels of our box have reinforcements along the rooflines to add additional cantilever support in additional to external supports. TC does a great job of engineering your...
Yeah, sorry if my reply seemed dismissive of your needs in terms of options - I agree with trying to get what you want. FWIW, if you decide to go the custom TC box route, I highly recommend considering a north-south bed configuration. In that scenario, the length of the cabover then becomes the...
