I didn't say it had to be easy. If you're unable to articulate a reasonable alternative, maybe your understanding of the problem isn't as complete as you imagine.

Fingers crossed for Alum-line. They seem to make a great product. I had called in April so maybe they just had corona-brain... I saw my first Euro-style camper almost 15 years ago and it seemed like such good formula: composite construction, flat floor, dynamic mounting. I figured that by the...

    Total Composites flatbed build

Good conversation. My $.0002 below: I thought about that, but I'm having trouble finding something that approximates it either size-wise, weight, or both. Obviously, there will be a lot of road testing on non-public roads before I unleash myself on the streets. What your solution is to this...

2020 Ram 5500 DIY Composite Panel Camper Build Thread

Do you mind asking him if he'd be willing to do these again? I would like him to take my money! Those look amazing. I assume that this is the same person that make your 45* roof angle as well?

Because I have a regular truck rather than a cab-chassis, the framerails not flat. I suppose I could take up the space with UMHW or similar. These spring mounts are designed to manage lateral load and fore-aft, which is why they nest inside one another rather than the example above. The...

    Slide in Camper Survey

Is the cabover length designed to still allow the front roof panels on the Jeep to open? Why not just extend the length of the alcove for a lengthwise bed and more storage?

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

Sorry, I should have been more clear - what is the height to the top of the camper body when installed in the bed of your truck? I know it's a hassle to measure so no worries if you can't. Just curious.

The flatbed rails rest on the frame rails in the center, between the wheels, on thick UHMW plastic isolators.

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

I like your approach on your build. It looks like it is coming together nicely. Do you happen to know what the overall height of your camper is? Not necessarily to the highest point of the fan or whatever else you have up there, just the height of the camper body? a

Honesty, this is the main reason I went with Total Composites. Victorian participates here and supports his customers and his product. To be fair, many other great companies aren't active here and it doesn't mean they aren't good. Nevertheless, for me, since this is a DIY project, having the...

1-ton trucks, what tires do you have?

The RT has similar snow ratings, FWIW. My experience with the BFG KO2 in the snow is: don't expect much lol. They are better in the snow than an MT but still not as good as a real snow tire. The reason I went with the RTs vs AT3 (either Cooper or Toyo lol) is my perception of the benefit of...

1-ton trucks, what tires do you have?

If you had the original wheels and wanted to stick with the original size, Toyo makes their Open Country RT in that same size, 285/60-20, that is rated for 3640lbs per tire. My understanding is that the difference between the AT3 and RT is that the RT's carcass is based on the mud terrain so...

True, but that approach is thwarted by my lack of access to a shop or interest in making my own panels and then building the box from said panels.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing fancy parts and I appreciate seeing cool stuff. We could afford to go a similar route, but then I'd be annoyed with modern truck electronics or paying for stuff I never really wanted (eg - the diamond plating on the Norweld bed. I hate that stuff). I'm...

    Total Composites flatbed build

A composite camper is very stiff. Any vehicle flex that gets passed through to the camper can cause it to crack. Spring mounting the camper, either through a subframe or this method here, allows the camper to move independently of the chassis, hopefully improving its longevity.

Because we decided not to have an integrated subframe made and instead are going with a traditional flatbed, we needed to get said flatbed to get its actual dimensions when mounted on the truck. Before we got the flatbed installed, I figured I should get the truck mostly ready for life as...

1-ton trucks, what tires do you have?

Well, you can ignore the tire tag and look at the VIN tag instead. That should tell you the GVWR and the GAWR. Then you can work from there.
