Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

Take a moment and see if you can't get a Grp 31 in one of the trays (or both of them!). A Grp 78 battery is only good for 60-70Ah (at least it isn't an Optima at a paltry ~50 ). A single 78 battery is only good for ~30Ah...you'll drive a starter batt into the ground pretty quick. Grp 31 is good...

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

Just a quick reminder, I'm running a Duracell Sam's Club AGM Deep Cycle under the hood...it is my starting and winch battery. My Jeep is a hell of lot hotter under the hood than your truck (know from experience). It is only a few dollars more than your FLA (like 40 maybe for a Grp 31). For your...

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

That's a mighty big statement... John, generally your advise is solid, but come on - What was that again? 10-14+yrs with FLA in a vehicle app and a 75% SoH? Ok...your numbers are growing with time/posts. Golf carts and LA based small electric vehicles will cycle out their Batts every 4-7 yrs...

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

Your numbers sort of jive for stationary large cell/capacity FLA app locations, but not vehicle. No way. 10-14yrs FLA in a realistic vehicle app that still has usable capacity at 70-75 of original Ah??? Sorry, but that's a little hard to believe. As an outlier for an RV parked in a coastal...

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

We've debate this one before... Very few Overlanders actual cycle their Batts to death, most calendar them out...or let them die early from PSOC (strictly rely on vehicle alternators).... I work out of my rigs and run all sorts of loads and run minimal solar. (Long before van life...but much...

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

I'm running Sam's club Group 31 AGM Deep Cycle Duracell 100-110Ah as my starting battery. Plenty of CCA to turn any engine over. Been deep cycling it for several years now (4-5 yrs now)...$187. Runs my winch too. I'll be able to have fresh Batts avery 4-6 yrs and still be way way ahead of...

    2019 Honda Cb500x - 2200 miles - Northern CA

Sorry for your loss - hope you sell the bike quickly. With Covid, things are very tight, otherwise I would have taken a ride to buy my 1st motorcycle. Awesome setup! Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

    Re-gear time need advice

Hold the phone... This is a 3.8 with an Auto in the mountains. Not a 3.6 with 5sp or a JL with 8sp.... 4.56 is a total waste of money. 4.88 is min for low elevations...5.13 is my firm recommendation for the OP. It will take sometime to run the proper google searches looking for 07-11 Auto...

JK dual swing out rear bumper options?

@jscherb Forgot to ask you - have any cool ideas for boxes or a rear setup? The army boxes are gone....

JK dual swing out rear bumper options?

@jscherb I got a sketch from many moons ago similar to what you have above...but I never digitized it. I want to play with some concepts to make this work for my application. I'm currently running a Titan fuel carrier (the older style - the left side sticks out a bit from the tire) and may...

A refridgerator is a Food Battery! It also stores Beer! It is a Beer Battery...or maybe a Beer Generator!! Yeah, that's it... Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

    "Solar Generator"

My Jeep is a mutli-purpose overlander...it has the aerodynamics of a brick...so I guess it can identify as a brick!...a brick it is! A cinderblock it is kind of brick...so it works! Therefore, all overlanding vehicles can also be called bricks...or cinderblocks. It also transforms my money...

    Power System for Winter Use

The electrical heating element is nice to use in a pinch...otherwise the coolant loop is all that's needed. I'll be adding a dieselD5 coolant heater at some point in the future. Consumes 60-75Ah or so...just fine for occasional use. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
