Sorry to see what happened to you. My experience from having both slide in and flatbed (Hallmarks) the flatbed model has heavy utilities such as batteries, propane tanks, hot water heater and water storage tanks mounted a good 2' lower where the wheel well cutouts were on the slide in model so...
Not so sure about this approach. It looks like the bulk of the load of your camper is concentrated in one area of the frame. This type of pivot would be better with rails that were the length of the truck frame then the pivot was attached to those rails to distribute the load over the length...
Nick - I don't think I am being a drama queen here. I was referring to HB 2020 which didn't pass. It would have effectively banned my 2005 (pre 2010) medium duty (between 14000 and 26000 Lb GVW) truck in the year 2025. Frankly HB 2007 that did pass may do that as well. It got passed while I...
I recently installed a tankless water heater in my house and have noticed that a lot of water goes down the drain waiting for it to get hot. I suspect that this might be a similar issue with this unit since it appears that it heats water on demand rather than heating a tank full of water and...
Vargsmetal - I hope you are right about diesel. Oregon came very close to passing a law that would make it impossible to register and use pre-DEF medium diesel trucks (my Fuso) as well as agriculture and construction equipment. Thankfully it didn't pass. Yet. The law would not have impacted...
Back to trucks...
I just read through this thread because I am in a similar search for a DD pickup. I totally get the "soul" conversation...I grew up riding around in my dad's '64 VW van and my first car was a VW Bug. I've owned lots of unique cars since including a '71 Porsche with a targa...
Allan - I know you are really, really good at squeezing Datsuns in your garage but I just don't think another Fuso would fit. You could prove me wrong...

I have seen some fiberglass boxes but have no idea who makes them. Perhaps someone that fabricates custom marine stuff could do it. Let us know what you find!
Nope - it was dealer stock and they wanted to get rid of it so I got a good deal...or so I thought. I suspect that more flatbeds are "catty-wompus" than not but it usually doesn't matter if you are using it to haul freight. I fixed the bulk of the problem by cutting the front 6" of the deck...
Before you lay your money down on whichever flatbed you pick, do yourself a favor and check if it is square by measuring from corner to corner diagonally and check if the sides are parallel and rails are the same length. It doesn't matter if you are just stacking hay bales on it but will when...
Inside photos continued....
Opposite the fridge is the bathroom. We have a creek fill cassette toilet and Hallmark made a new shower enclosure for our camper. It is best described as "minimalist". I am over 6' tall and have rather broad shoulders but I fit in it and can take a shower so it...
Ok - Camper and I are in the same place at the same time so I got some interior photos today. Disclaimer: The truck is in my shop and I don't have quite enough headroom to raise the top all the way so the photos show the soft walls kind of folded in. Its not like that under normal conditions...
Yetti - We really like the step holder. I had to reconfigure the top step a bit adjust for mounting it on the flatbed. Normally these are mounted kind of under the overhang of the camper on a pickup so the top step has a long piece of aluminum as the connector to the mount to push the step out...
Jack - I am way delinquent in posting interior photos. The truck and I are about 300 miles apart right now but we will be reunited this weekend so I will get some shots posted.
It is working well for us. We camped in it quite a bit in the year that we have had it including an extended trip...
A lesson we learned from the Camel Trophy Guys at Overland Expo was to watch the sidewall on the uphill tires. When they start to loose the bulge you might want to turn downhill real soon. Having a spotter helps. I have been impressed at how stable the Fuso is.

Add a torque multiplier to the list so you can break the lugnuts loose. It's more recovery gear than tool but I added a Pull Pal winch anchor after augering in the mud with nothing big enough to anchor too (Pugslyyy and Yabanja you know where I'm talking about). Bicycle, Ham radio and Garmin...
