Do you know if that tax applies in Canada? -Dan

Look like VW want to bring the diesel Amarock to the North American Market. http://www.auto123.com/en/news/prepare-for-a-volkswagen-pickup-in-canada?artid=144185 Excellent. More diesel choices should only increase the chance of Jeep/Toyota etc. brining them to compete. -Dan

    Jeep Wrangler Habitat Official Release

That pic makes it look like the Habitat would clear the folded back Gobi. The pain would be you have to take anything heavy off the rack before you can fold the rack back, and you'd have to leave it folded back like that the entire time the Habitat is "open". Hmm. -Dan

    14' Jeep GC 'EcoDiesel'

That does look like a valid option. The owner of the TJ Brute says Dave at AEV is undecided if he's going to offer it as a kit for TJ & JK owners..... And there is a guy on the AEV forums that has a 3.0 VM ready to go into his JK. He's going to do it with out without AEV's help, and he wants...

    14' Jeep GC 'EcoDiesel'

Cool, thanks for the info. That's why so many people (me included) are so interested in the new 3.0 Diesel. We know it bolts onto the same auto as the JK. We also know it's wired for a GC, and another engine wired for the GC swaps into the JK with a kit (Hemi) - so we're hoping it works...

Nice. Have you read of anyone stuffing the OM642 into a JK? -Dan

Because I want an efficient, quiet, smooth, powerful engine that will significantly increase range, and pull up a hill in 6th at 60mph with ease. (I'll do an emissions delete on it too, so I can drive it in 2nd and 3rd world countries) What engine do you have in mind? -Dan

    14' Jeep GC 'EcoDiesel'

I found this thread on AEV's forum: http://forum.aev-conversions.com/showthread.php?t=1891 $20k for a brand new HEMI swap, labor included. I see no reason the 3.0 diesel would be cheaper than that. I was hoping to do most of the work myself anyway, now I know I have to :) -Dan

    14' Jeep GC 'EcoDiesel'

True. Especially for owners of the 2012+ with the 3.6 and better auto. What does the HEMI swap cost all-told by the time you buy the AEV kit, engine and trans? I think it's right around $15k ? I'm only guessing, but I think it's a lot. I think a diesel conversion will be popular for owners of...

    14' Jeep GC 'EcoDiesel'

It's not based on anything other than my gut, but I think it's extremely likely we'll see kits from Burnsville and/or AEV not too long after the diesel GC lands. Those guys have got to know there is a huge demand for a top quality JK diesel swap, and this engine will be perfect. -Dan

If it doesn't come from the factory, my plan is a used 07 JK Unlimited for ~$15k + this engine conversion for ~$10-$15k, all for hopefully around $25k-$30k. Seems do-able in my lifetime. -Dan

I hope it gets better than 33 highway / 23 city mpg as mentioned in that article. Especially with an 8 speed (if it comes)

2013 to be short year for Grand Cherokee

That's interesting, thanks. I wonder if they couldn't get the 3.0 ready in time? or maybe the 8 speed? -Dan

Jeep lineup in the next few years

If you analyse the dyno graphs carefully, you'll notice the shape of the curves are quite different. The 3.6 has more area under the torque curve than any other engine, making it much, much more "driveable". It's tuned completely differently throughout the rev range. -Dan

    Wrangler Record Sales May 2012-!

Sure. I'm not saying it's a guarantee, I'm saying it all helps. I can think of two factors that have changed drastically since 2007/8, which might help the decision: 1. Gas is much more expensive than it used to be, so efficiency is a big deal nowadays. (and it's not going to get cheaper) Think...

    Wrangler Record Sales May 2012-!

You mean you think that AEV will offer the conversion into the Wrangler? IMO, a factory Wrangler would be the best, but I'll take an AEV conversion over nothing. As has been mentioned many times, now the 3.0 passes all the emissions testing, there is nothing stopping Jeep putting it in the...

    Wrangler Record Sales May 2012-!

Haven, Do you still think the 3.0 is coming to the GC for the 2013 model year? Someone on here was pretty sure it's not coming till the 2014 model year. Do you think it will hit the 1500 right away, or maybe after a year or two? (That might be a good indicator how long it could potentially...

    Jeep Wrangler Habitat Official Release

Thanks for the reply. Thanks makes perfect sense. I've actually been thinking about adding the panels with a hinge on the outside edge of the top. That way, when the top is "open", the panels can be hinged so they are then right-side-up again. An advantage I see here is you could hinge them...

    Improving the JK fuel efficiency?

On the Pentastar, this is more true than ever before for Jeep. Ever wondered why the exhaust runners hang so low on the new V6? It's because sophisticated engines with VVT really, really, really benifit from tuned-length extractors. (Dave from AEV mentioned he thought it was good for 45 hp)...
