What the local Jeep dealer told me about diesels JKs

It's worth noting we're talking about double the mileage. The gasoline savings from one trip down to Mexico and back for me will pay for the DPF delete 5 times over. -Dan

    Jeep Wrangler Habitat Official Release

I'm also thinking about throwing a couple of solar panels on top of the roof, so I'm with you. The guys that designed this thing have specific tolerances for weight, and basically anything you put on the roof is going to go over that. They are obviously going to say "It's not designed for that...

Expeditions 7: Two Years Around the World on all Seven Continents.

Scott, If you have not already passed through on your way south, let me know when you'll be in Whitehorse again. It would be awesome to catch up for a beer, and I can show you some cool stuff around here. You're extremely welcome for a hot shower, though I don't have enough couch space for you...

AEV/Burnsville 3.0L Diesel JK Conversion Kit

I just checked and you are correct. On the Australian Jeep site, the 6spd CRD is only 410 Nm while the auto is 460 Nm of torque (both are 147 kW of power) -Dan

Ways to Increase the Jeep JK Payload

And considering this is an "Overland" discussion forum, I'd suggest many people on here are interested in doing the later. Maybe not every day, but certainly for every expedition, which might be many continuous weeks a year. -Dan

AEV/Burnsville 3.0L Diesel JK Conversion Kit

I'm pretty sure I saw a comment from DH that said the 6spd can handle it just fine, it's the OEM clutch that is the weak point. Also, the Mopar HEMI kit will "soon" be available with a standard, so there must be something out there that can handle the torque. -Dan

AEV/Burnsville 3.0L Diesel JK Conversion Kit

I still want a standard, so hopefully an option becomes available for that. -Dan

AEV/Burnsville 3.0L Diesel JK Conversion Kit

Yep, I've heard that from a few people. The tub is now set in terms of crash standards for "short engines" i.e. 4 cyl or V6 or V8. No more inline 6. -Dan

AEV/Burnsville 3.0L Diesel JK Conversion Kit

I thought there were tons of aftermarket options for this kind of thing to be pretty much plug-n-play with any vehicle/engine combination as used by the tuning market? You and me both. You have to think with the relationship Jeep now has with AEV (for the MW3, etc.) and Burnsville (for the...

AEV/Burnsville 3.0L Diesel JK Conversion Kit

Anyone want to hazard a guess what it might cost? I have to imagine it will be a little higher than a HEMI swap, due to needing a new diesel tank, pump and gas lines. Getting a 3.0 will also not be easy for a while, maybe either AEV or Burnsville will have a deal with Jeep to source them new...

Two Aux Tanks for the JK

I assume long ranger get away with it because the tank is not plastic? I'd want a metal skid on the tank anyway (like the stock one), so you could make sure the skid separates the pipe and tank.... but it would probably still see some heat. -Dan

Two Aux Tanks for the JK

I'm still wondering about installing a 2nd stock tank on the other side of the driveshaft (in the same place the long ranger goes) Can anyone get a price on a stock tank? (or I imagine you could find one off a wreck) Obviously still needs wiring and a transfer pump. -Dan

Why the Jeep Wrangler is the new Defender.

Ha, I don't believe it. They passed through Whitehorse 2 weeks ago, and I noted them in my mind as "The first Overlanders of the year". I walked right passed the two landys and thought "Hmm.. I should find the drivers"... but didn't. Funny enough, they were parked infront of a bar.... :D...

Why the Jeep Wrangler is the new Defender.

It's worth remembering this is not just Jeep, this applies to all modern diesel engines worldwide. The 1st world has mandated a new standard for reduced emissions, and it's going to take a long time (forever?) before third world countries have any incentive to adopt it too. My experience in...

Why the Jeep Wrangler is the new Defender.

I have to think companies like AEV will offer a kit, unless the Diesel comes from the factory in the Wrangler soon. I seriously doubt a diesel will show up as early as 2013 in the wrangler since the 3.6 just came out in 2012. It's not impossible though. Many people have pointed out the...

    Jeep Hybrid Conversion

I think it's in the wild and working on F 150's... so there is no reason it wouldn't be identical on the JK. Based on how it replaces the rear DS, I'd guess that it can only supply torque to the rear wheels... so in 2 hi, that's fine. In 4 hi/lo, I don't quite understand what would happen... by...
