    Improving the JK fuel efficiency?

Cruise control sucks for gas mileage because it's trying to keep you at a constant speed, no matter the conditions. When going up a hill, as you mentioned, it's best to get a run up, and be willing to go a little slower by the time you get to the top (don't just keep pressing down on the gas)...

Jeep lineup in the next few years

My understanding is the GC is getting the 3.0 Diesel for the 2013 model year, which means it will be on the showroom floor sometime around Aug/Sept.Oct. 2012. -Dan

    Improving the JK fuel efficiency?

If you read through the AEV forums, you'll see nobody is getting better mileage in any Hemi than a 2012 3.6 People seem to think a bigger engine somehow magically gets better mileage - it's just not true. The limiting factor of all engines is the volumetric efficiency - that is - getting enough...

    2012 JKU Rubicon Build/Adventure Thread

Nice man, I didn't realize you bit the bullet on a 2012. Are you happy with the auto? I'm eagerly awaiting the diesel in the GC, to see the potential of swapping it into a JKU Rubi. -Dan

    Improving the JK fuel efficiency?

Whenever I'm in the US I intentionally stay off the interstates. I drove from Canada to Mexico and the only interstate I hit was I-5 for the last few kms before Mexico. There are so many amazing two lane highways that go through all sorts of interesting places. -Dan

    Improving the JK fuel efficiency?

The best things you can do are: 1) Drive slower. Wind resistance requires more energy than anything else, and it increases with the cube of velocity. Driving at 55 instead of 70 will make a noticeable difference. 2) Accelerate smoothly and slowly, and don't try to hold too much speed up hills...

    Jeep Wrangler Habitat Official Release

Very cool. If the awning is like the one you guys had at Overland Expo, where will the support poles be stored when the fabic is "stuffed away"? Thanks, -Dan

Latest from HPA on their diesel conversion kit

I showed the numbers compared to my old 2.5 TJ.... this engine has 100 ft. lbs. more torque - so it's clearly going to be better than that, and IMHO, the 2.5 was already good enough for driving 40,000 mi. As for mileage, it's a turbo diesel with higher compression and better tech for efficiency...

Is This the New Diesel Jeep Wrangler Being Tested in America?

How did he manage that? Is it a euro Wrangler, or a conversion? What engine? -Dan

Is This the New Diesel Jeep Wrangler Being Tested in America?

Good observation. This begs the obvious question of what are AEV doing testing a pair of Euro spec diesel Wranglers? I'm pretty sure they didn't need to bolt their wheels onto them and drive around to make sure they are OK, so maybe there is something else going on here? They could just be...

    AEV Diesel Brute

This thing sound amazing. You must be over the moon with it. Do you know if Dave is looking into putting it into a JK? What diesel tank/pump does it have do you know? (tank capacity?) Thanks for the info, -Dan

Latest from HPA on their diesel conversion kit

I drove a 2.5 ltr TJ 40,000mi top to bottom on the Pan-Am. That little engine was 120 hp and 140 ft. lbs. It was fantastic for my drive, I never had a single problem, even up at 16,000+ feet. Obviously it was not a speed monster, and I had to gear down to climb hills often, but I was very happy...

What the local Jeep dealer told me about diesels JKs

Interesting. Remember, the Wrangler has the aerodynamics of a brick, and that is much more important than overall weight when talking about how much energy you need to move the thing at speed. The main reason I'd like them to use the 3.0 is that it's already passed EPA testing, etc. in the US...

Latest from HPA on their diesel conversion kit

This looks like an extremely well thought out kit. If I still had my TJ, I would be all over this. Temping to look for an LJ with engine trouble and go for it... I wonder if they have any plans for the JK? -Dan

What the local Jeep dealer told me about diesels JKs

What makes you so certain? The 2012 Wrangler changes mean the engine bay is perfect for 4-cylinder engines and V6's. The Wrangler now shares the same trans as the GC, which is getting a diesel for 2013 in the US. -Dan

Which Solar Panel kit to buy?

Hmm. Thanks. I ask about charging the battery because I know many people have the setup where when the engine is running, the alternator changes the aux battery, but when the engine is off, that circuit is cut so the primary vehicle battery will not be drained by aux devices (sorry, I don't...

Which Solar Panel kit to buy?

Does anyone have a link that explains why exactly I need a charge controller in such a small 'RV' setup? I understand the idea completely (from a friend's setup at his cabin), but I've seen RV and 4x4 setups that don't bother with a charge controller, they just have the solar panel wired...

Is This the New Diesel Jeep Wrangler Being Tested in America?

I found that interesting too. These are clearly not "factory spec" Euro Wranglers with those wheels. -Dan
