    The Dakar Car

When I build my next expedition vehicle, it will be something along those lines. The major thing I learned from my Alaska->Argentina trip is that I would like to live outside the Jeep (i.e. roof tent / awning / camping table & chairs) but also have the option to live inside when weather or bugs...

New Hemi Mopar Jeep Wrangler Apache | 2012 Easter Jeep Safari

My personal opinion is that Jeep can't politically justify offering a vehicle from the factory that gets ~15mpg in the year 2012. How many vehicle ads do you see these days that don't include the words "fuel efficient"? It's just too big of an issue for them to go "backwards". Also I think it...

    Long range seating

I drove my TJ 65,000km from Alaska to Argentina, and never had a problem with the stock drivers seat. I'm 6'2", about 190lbs. Before I set out my brother and I did a few road trips and so I sat in the passenger seat for a few hours. There was something about the front passenger seat that was...

New Jeep Concept Vehicles at Easter Jeep Safari

The 3.0 turbo diesel from VM/Fiat has been confirmed for the 2013 GC in North America. It makes 450 ft. lbs. and I expect a few companies to at least attempt the conversion into the Wrangler (it shares the same auto) -Dan

Is anyone running 16" or 17" Alloy wheels and skinny 33's?

Nice. Looks great. Do you have a lift to accommodate those 255/85's ? Thanks, -Dan

4bt diesel CJ based pickup truck

If you stick to any kind of maintained road, you have very frequent gas stations (with gasoline and diesel.) The Dalton Highway is the "most desolate road in North America" and it's only 240 miles from gas station to gas station.

New Jeep Liberty will have 3.2L V6

It's been confirmed the 3.0 VM Diesel will be in the 2013 GC. (I expect a real announcement soonish) As for the Wrangler and other vehicles, there has been nothing said, other than the rumor mill. We can continue to hope. -Dan

New Jeep Liberty will have 3.2L V6

Great to see they are actively moving in the more sophistication / more efficiency direction all the time. I like the direction Jeep is heading. Fingers double crossed for more diesels after the GC. -Dan

    Jeep Wrangler Habitat Official Release

Thanks for the great update. It's awesome to see/hear this is moving along. How hard would it be to put a "bigger" or "stronger" torsion spring in there? I'd still really like to run a solar panel or two on the roof. I wonder what the process is on the OEM hard tops? I think many people will...

    JKs max tow weight

What's important is the shape of the torque curve, not just the peak number. You'll find the 3.6 is much more "driveable" because it has a 'fatter' curve, with more area under it. It's also matched extremely well to the auto trans, as you mention. -Dan

I have been researching the new 4 BT conversion for my JK

I agree with you, but it's interesting to note that once the 3.0 is in the Grand Cherokee it will be in the Chrysler parts system. Sure, a dealer in Fairbanks might not have the part you need on hand, but they can sure order it. -Dan

I have been researching the new 4 BT conversion for my JK

All indications thus far point to this being in the 2013 Grand Cherokee in North America. (It's already passed all required emissions testing) I'll be amazed if someone doesn't come out with a conversion for the Wrangler. -Dan
