This is fine and how I carry my 15 ft tandem kayak. My comment was directed at adding permanent "racks" to the lid. It's been done before and those that I know that did it regretted it.
YodaTEQ has a cool new "TEQ" logo grill to upgrade the Safari Snorkel - very cool little item that all of us Toyota heads can appreciate, it's the small details like this really make a rig stand out IMHO.
The Rigid Industries lights are beyond bright - mounting via Rigid grill, All-Pro Offroad APEX bumper and SoCal Super Trucks brackets is an ideal arrangement.

When I worked with Demello on my new rear bumper design, my main concern with my old swing out/spare tire carrier design by CBI was WEIGHT. Having the tire and all that way back behind the axle was no bueno IMO. MUCH better weight distro with our current setup with the spare back under the bed...
It's all about insulation, we added a 1 or 1.5 inch (can't remember) memory foam topper to ours. Add an overkill sleeping bag (ours is a rectangular bag from Teton Sports rated at -25 degrees) and you will be good to go.
