One of the primary reasons I went back to BFG AT tire was tread life. I had 70K miles on a pair over 5 years when I traded truck in last month. The tread was still within recommended range and most of truck's life was kept outside in TX. I had the E rated BFG At's on a 3/4 ton 4x4 van as well...
Duratrac is great tire, but will be too loud. Don't know much about the others, but BFG AT is great tire IMO. I've not had good experience with Michelin LTX either, but that was like 5 years ago.
+1. Maybe a queen size sleeping bag with liner inside, long johns if you need them. Had some unexpected 39 degree weather on beach trip few months ago. Had nylon sleeping bags for 60+ degree weather on top of air mattress. A good blanket on top of sleeping bag was enough.
Good size bed on 1ton chassis; I'd be looking at a cab over camper, pop up style. Could also go with a topper, but will need lots of insulation, and won't be as near as comfortable. If your wanting to see how little you can spend go with a truck bed tent.
If you've had it for 140,000 miles and are not overly annoyed at not being able to make it to places you see other vehicles can then should be fine for you. Really depends on what you are doing. I just bought new 2018 Chevy Z71 crew cab. Sure I wanted a land cruiser, but I have a young family of...
Great thread, very helpful as I'm ready to do some cargo management myself on 18 Z71 CC I just picked up. I'm leaning towards a bed rug myself. I really wanted a ZR2 and looked at one on showroom floor, but the back seat just didn't have enough leg room for my 3 kido's (one still in car seat)...
Yeah I'd go down a tire size if you want more power especially for towing, doubt it would affect mileage much.
Not sure where your at, but I've never had good luck with any tire but BFG AT KO's. Tried to switch to Michelin AT, forgot model, but it was an all terrain tire. Back when I kept...
Kindly disagree with MC on Tyler's hospital, had a bad experience there when my grandmother passed.
Southeast Dallas can be rough and anyplace remotely attractive around there will be overly expensive. I live in Mansfield, which is south central of Dallas and Fort Worth and fairly cheap, also...
I'm in north texas / south DFW to be exact and have family in east texas, in the Tyler/Longview/Van area. The beautiful east texas with tall pine trees and fairly undeveloped are begins in Van and runs all the way east to Louisiana. It also runs south from Van all the way to the Woodlands area...
Yeah, that's why I suggested a 4x4 van. If your going to go big, get the biggest passenger vehicle on the road. Not much out there for Ford Transit or Dodge promaster vans yet, but there are a few options to lift GM express/savanna vans. Like the Nissan van as well, but only know of one company...
Guess I need to update my family vehicle. Kids now 7,5, and 3. After a short tent camping trip with the truck decided it would work fine so got rid of the 4x4 conversion van. It also didn't tow that great as the 350/250hp motor was lacking. Was tired of paying for a third car and the miles were...
Was in the same boat and had a crew cab z71 before I had the three kids. I bought a 4x4 conversion van as my designated road trip vehicle. Too big to be a daily driver though. That worked great for a while.......miles got up there and was tired of paying for third car expenses and not enough...
Great post. I am increasingly at awe at the ability of some of the packing abilities of some on this site. Still hard to believe how anyone can get a family of 4 and camping gear into a jeep.
