Seems like a terrible waist of money IMO. For less money you could build a much more capable and roomier 4x4 conversion van..........with front and rear lockers and a diesel! For the price of a new Yukon denali you can get a brand new Quigley conversion van, 6" coil over lift from weldtech...
Keep the truck, you will need to the bed to haul around all the kido's and wifes crap. Ride will be much better than jeep. Not enough room in Subaru, 4runner, or jeep IMO. Should consider a 4x4 van as well if you can afford a third car, sucks to drive around daily.
Great thread.
If you really want to spend a lot of time on hardcore trails recommend a 4x4 truck to get you there and a good ATV or offroad golf cart (2wd is fine) that will fit in the back. This way your not tearing up your expensive ride home. Much funner when your less worried about...
If priced the same with same mileage get the LX - it's a bigger car and can tow more, but also going to be more sluggish. I test drove a 09 GX and thought it was kind of sluggish; an LX with same motor and additional 1,000lbs would be worse so test drive both if you can. LX is worse on gas. I'd...
Curt makes a front receiver for these with recovery hooks on each side. It fit on mine with Quigley IFS conversion and those big bumper covers that come on explorer van conversion if you can believe that.
Great thread man, enjoyed the read. My auto's were getting pretty high mileage so just sold my 4x4 van and traded old z71 truck in on new 18 Chevy Z71 crew cab so the read has been helpful.
Curious, if you had to do it over would you go with spray in bedliner? That is a first priority for me...
I put a curt front receiver on a 2002 express with quigley ifs 4x4 because of the recovery hooks/loops incorporated into design, but I paid someone to do install and wasn't easy for them.
You can do it yourself, they are held on with screws or bolts and there should be stock bumpers underneath. There will be holes left so you'll need to cover with trim molding or maybe get rocker panels or vinyl stickers to cover up. Could also have body shop fill them and maybe go with non-stick...
Think you really need something that will serve as a real shelter for rain and wind. Cooking is just one purpose. I use it as a living room to hang out in and store all my crap I don't want getting wet in back of truck or in my tent while trying to sleep.
Price reduced to $9K!!, Open to full or partial trades for Lexus LX or GX, low mileage 4x4 truck, Pop up camper, portable refrigerator, etc. Let me know what you have. Might be able to kick in some extra cash on a trade up.
Frame is of no concern IMO, but yes I have heard that before. The frames get reinforced in the 4x4 conversion. The key differences are the approach, breakover, and departure angles. Chevy IFS will have a much better ride than straight axle Ford 4x4, but it also won't be able to handle as much...
I cook in a Kodiak screen house when it's windy, but probably a bit expensive than your looking for. The coleman octagon 98 may be a cheaper alternative https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Octagon-Tent-13x13-Feet/dp/B00HN987K6
Dang guy's, 1,200 views and no interest/post? Was I too honest? Bad pics? What's up? Priced too high?
Do you think it would generate more interest if I:
1) Pull the ground effects and bumper covers and spray linex on the belly panels (would add 3-4 inch of ground clearance)
2) Raise front an...
