This isn't the best photo, but it's the only one I have at the moment. We just threw a mexican blanket over top of the lockbox so nobody could see what was actually there and also painted it flat black so it blended in a little. In our truck there's a raised flat portion of sheetmetal that the...
Are you talking about Brad Stucko? We ran into him in Rio Dulce, Guatemala. He ran up to us and was like, "Your truck is the wallpaper on my phone!" If that's not who you're talking about, just ignore the hijack ;)
Yup, they sell for stupid money... putting my green truck up for sale for $8500...
There are some great looking trucks on here!
huntsonora, your truck looks goooood!
Yup, the crossbars are Unistrut as well. The aluminum channel is part of the tent... it comes with a couple of bolts and a steel flatstock to bolt to most roof racks. I had to buy slightly longer bolts to attach to the Unistrut since it's a bit thicker.
I'll get some more detailed photos when we get back down there... but for now:
I used a lot of materials I had lying around for this. If you had to buy everything new it would probably still be less than $100. Originally I was going to buy a rack, but couldn't find one that would work for the...

If you end up wanting to get a dual battery setup installed by somebody else you can contact Joe and Dana at http://www.dasmule.com/. They're just over the border.
We knew absolutely no Spanish before driving into Mexico. Eventually we took some classes in Guanajuato and then some more in Guatamala in San Pedro la Laguna. It definitely helps to have an understanding of the language, but if you don't know you can always learn on the road! If we were...
Thanks nocensorbo! It's new and has a few issues I'm trying to sort out before we head down to South America... let me know if there's anything that I should add that would be helpful! In the middle of putting together a Frequently Asked Questions page as well, so feel free to fire away...
We didn't have paper maps for Central America. For SA we just grabbed the Nat Geo maps off of Amazon. Life Remotely recommended the Reise Know How maps.
We didn't have a GPS either, so once we installed the Skobbler GPS Nav app sometime in Mexico we were pretty stoked.
If you have 12V/USB chargers for all of your devices I would avoid the inverter. A car charger for the MacBook Air is probably cheaper and will be more efficient than the inverter.
Looking forward to drinks!

So... we have been asked a couple of times for advice for driving to Central America. What were our favourite places? It's a very general question, but since I just summarized it for an email and I'll just go ahead and copy/paste it here.
